It's a balmy 10 degrees above zero here in Minnesota with a forecast of another 3-5 inches of snow on top of the already 12 inches of snow and temps over the next 3-4 days of a HIGH of 20 below zero...

WHY DO I LIVE HERE? Someone needs to tell me why!!

I couldn't live there!! My Dad lives in Vermont and I spoke to him today and he said it was cold and had an ice/snow storm and schools were closed today. I got to tell him, its 60 degrees here and the sun is out....since I live in Las Vegas....It's been raining and snowing in the mountains and after a few days of rain, were weak and need sunshine haha....:p

I'll join. We're looking for temps tonight at around zero (F) and possibility of wind chills at -35 to -40. Not a pleasant week. Makes me really anxious for my cruise.

You live there because it gives you an exquisite appreciation of the curative value of warm weather, sunshine and plentyful anti-freeze in the form of Rum drinks with little umbrellas in them.

 

BTW, in lovely Winterpeg we're looking at more snow, our second blizzard warning in a week and a half, and -50 with windchills here (that would be -58 F) :cool: I have some sympathy - moreso because I'm heading down for my cruise in 4 1/2 weeks.

I'm here for ya! It's in the 50's here in central MI. Some serious storms coming across Lk MI right now. By tomorrow at this time, our temps are suppose to be in the teens if we're lucky. It's no wonder everyone is so darn sick around here!

I moved from Minnesota to escape the cold weather. Unfortunately I ended up in Wisconsin!! Looking for a high of -1 on Friday. brrrrrr....

 

We have friends who live in Orange County CA who marvel at our lack of traffic and low housing costs. However, they only visit in the summer. If they visited this weekend they would understand why we are not overcrowded here! Only the strong and stupid survive:D

 

Carol- we vacationed in Winnipeg a few years ago and it was so HOT they actually closed the zoo!

The answer, Cruzmom, is that some of us aren't quite so bright. :o

In my case -- 18 years of serious cold on Long Island, 4 years of super-freeze at the U of M (Twin Cities), followed by a looooong lifetime in frosty Connecticut. WHHHYYYY????

 

To make it worse, this weekend we're off for a relaxing 6-hour drive to my daughter's college in balmy ... Montreal. :rolleyes: D'OH!!!!!!!

On the other hand, there's absolutely no Texan or Floridian who's going to match my appreciation for our April 30 itinerary of New Orleans - Grand Cayman - Cozumel - Aruba - San Juan.

And it sounds like your EOS trip will make February of '06 really fun!!!

Sure, sure, the Southerners are all smart enough not to live up here in January .... but there's just no way they can soak up the sun like we can. :p It's the payoff for fighting our way through these blizzards, ice storms, Canadian cold fronts and weeks-long Arctic frosts. :D

Cruzmom...your question"why do I live here" I aks myself that many times...I live in Buffalo!! Right now it is 11:12 pm and the temp is 50...No matter where we go at what time of the year it is,people hear where we are from and the next questionis always...is it snowing there? Sure we complain when we get buried in 3 feet of snow,but thank goodness we never have to deal with what the poor people in California are going through now.Our hearts go out to them.I guess the snow and cold,whch we are suppose to get over the weekend,isn't so bad

Here outside of Chicago/Wisconsin border

 

Got 14" of snow last week, 6 " 2 days ago. Now we are having fog, thunderstorms (yes in Jan,) and nowhere for the snow to melt.(flood warning). I lived in Minneapolis and couldn't stand the winter and I was born and raised in Chicago. That is cold. I feel for you.

Moved to California on my 18th birthday - no shoveling driveways for me.

I've officially turned into a weather sissy tho - when it gets below 50 degrees I think I'm freezing now. The N.Dak. temps are so much lower - but it's a dry cold, rather than the wet damp fog type that settles into your bones here in the central valley. Sound sissy enough?

Regardless of the weather I sure enjoy my cruise vacations.

Glad to know I'm not the only living and breathing snowman on the boards! I keep saying that this weather is for the birds but the birds are actually smarter...they head south for the winter!!

Yes, our EOS next January will be very appreciated. I told my DH that the only way I would stay living here would be if I could take a tropical vacation every winter to get a break! I've lived in this region all my life and the older I get, the less tolerable of the cold I become.

It usually takes me at least a couple of days to thaw once I get to the warmer climates!!

What is the weather in CHICAGO right now especially O HARE airport, my wife is flying into O HARE this afternoon from MICH. and then on her way home to LAS VEGAS.

 

They have delayed her flight into CHI. till 5 pm mich. time and won't be home till 9 pm LAS VEGAS time.

OK, I'll bite. In Duluth, MN, we have gotten since New Years:

A two day ice storm

 

Three separate snowstorms, ranging from 6 - 10 inches

 

And the temp this weekend is expected to be 35+ below zero with a daily high of 10 below - NOT WINDCHILL, ACTUAL TEMPS, meaning if there's any wind at all (OFF LAKE SUPERIOR? NAH! ;) ) then it will be more like 50 below zero. Coldest it's been for 8 years - expected to last for several days.

 

And the schools haven't closed once!

 

Good thing I have cruises planned for April, June, July and November!

HI Travel! I was just in Duluth last Thursday-Sat! Had lunch at Angie's Cantina. The weather waas quite nice (for there) but it was also nice down "south" in Bloomington!

 

But of course, now we are waiting for the big freeze to hit. Supposed to get to -10 tonight. RealFeel might be around -35. YIKES!!!

 

I too ask why I live here. Hmmm....No sales tax on clothing?

I have been to Duluth and know how the cold comes off Lake Superior...but, it is pretty beautiful up there! I live in the Midwestern part of the state...woods and lakes but not quite as pretty as the North Shore area!

Today is 37 and so foggy I can barely make out the ground below our office building. I'm hoping to book another cruise soon so I have something to look forward to during our next blizzard. :D

Well, I'm getting married on Saturday. We were hoping for SNOW. And seeing as we live in Central Ontario, you'd think we'd have some.

I used to cruise and travel like a normal person, but now I am lucky enough to lecture on RCI and Princess so I'm able to go even more than before. This year I'm lecturing 3 times: on the 7 night Eastern Carib Navigator in March, on the 12 night Med Brilliance in July, and on the 12 night Grand Caribbean Tour on Sea Princess in Nov.

 

As one lady told me on my last cruise: "Girl, you gotta horseshoe up your bum!" (only she didn't say "bum"!)

 

It's about the only thing that keeps me going when winter hangs on forever. As they say about Duluth: 9 months of winter and 3 months of bad sledding!

I re-read your posting, I mis-read it. Yes, I also have a friend in Wisconsin and her housing costs are low. She is also on a low income assistance program. I work for a Housing Authority as a Network Administrator and basically see data periodically but also talk to Eligibility Specialists and things are getting tough out here. HUD isn't helping out much with budget cuts either but we will survive.
