bandtaxi Posted April 15, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 15, 2010 I could find nothing on this excursion so I wanted to post. We took this excursion last week a little worried that we could find nothing about it. This is a overland tour in a military 6x6 with a bus body on the back. Eric described how he and Jose built their first vehicle and then this one (their second). Our tour left the village and headed toward the rain forest, traveling through rural areas. Jose drove and Eric rode in the back and was very informative about all aspects of the region. We stopped to use the rest room at the location of the zipline and horseback riding area. We continued driving through the rain forest and stopped along the road and took a walk to see some of the native plants and creatures (poisonous frogs and beautiful spiders!) Jose was always on the lookout and while driving he would stop to point out sloth, native birds, etc. We stopped in a banana plantation where we got out and heard all about the plantation. While Eric talked to us, Jose prepared a snack of fresh fruits, chips and salsa, sodas and Eric's specialty "the missile". This trip was informative and offered a mix of riding walking, and seeing some of the local area up close. It was very evident that these guys love their work as they were anxious for us to see things that the normal 'tourist' might not see on a visit to Costa Rica. This is not the normal 4x4 jeep tour where you ride in the open back of the vehicle, and you have a convoy of vehicles, but you are enclosed in comfortable air conditioning with huge windows to see everything along the way. So in a way it is a bit more reserved, but every bit as enjoyable and informative.

Princess has a similar excursion (don't know which cruiseline you were on) and also indicates that you stop at a grocery and school. Just wondered if you did that and if so, was it just a "stop or drive by" or did you actually visit the store and/or school? Thanks!
bandtaxi Posted April 19, 2010 #6 Share Posted April 19, 2010 We were on Carnival and it was done through the cruise line. We did NOT stop at a school or grocery store. If we had stopped at a grocery store I'm sure several people would have purchased the alcohol he used to make the "missile". He said it was not exported and only available on there.
