Is there a restaurant close to the Intercontinental San Juan ?

The Intercontinental has it's own beachfront restaurant.

Additionally, there are many restaurants in the area all of which are within easy walking distance. Some are franchises, some independent. There are also other hotels in the area that all have very nice places to eat.

hi! We stayed at the IC this past April before our Princess cruise. We ate at Alfredo's at the hotel one night. This is supposedly where fettucini alfredo was created. I did have it and it was very good. The next night we ate at a restaurant called Platas that was a few blocks walking distance. This was PR food. I had mofongo there.

BUT...I wish we had walked into the El San Juan hotel next door first as they had several restaurants there that had really interesting menus. I cannot remember exactly what was there but we scanned the menus when we visited for drinks and music AFTER dinner and wished we had stopped by first. they have a rooftop BBQ place too. It looked interesting as you can see all the lights lit up on it from the street and wonder if it is a nightclub. We asked and turned out to be a BBQ restaurant.

So I recommend taking a little time walking around. Everything is right there. El San Juan is literally out the front entrance of IC and a quick walk.

Oh..and this might sound wierd..but THE BEST Starbuck's frappucino was had at the SB in the El San Juan lobby. I don't know what it was..the coffee...or what..but I still think of that frappucino!!

If you don't do El San Juan for dinner...definitely go there for drinks or to hang out. They have a big open room with several bar areas and then music and salsa dancing in the middle. Fun just to go there and people watch and enjoy a drink!!

Have fun! I am heading back in March but this time staying at Sheraton OSJ and hanging there but I would not hesitate to stay or hang around the IC and El San Juan!!

Next door is El San Juan Resort and Casino and a great Italian Restaurant named Piccolo Fontina. It was always excellent and we would be sure to dine there if possible. Been a while since we were there but have enjoyed a great many wonderful dinners in that delicious restaurant.

Just came home from Puerto Rico and stayed 5 days at the Intercontinental.

Ruth Chris' Steak House is still open.

Offsite are several really great restaurants all within walkable distance:

  1. Metropol--consistently highly ranked as one of the best "home cooking" restaurants in Puerto Rico. Very causal. Lots of families. Great service. Excellent food. Reasonable prices.
  2. Mi Casita--We ate both lunch and dinner at this little restaurant in the strip mall across the street. The lunch cook is better than the dinner cook.
  3. Bakery--The little bakery a couple of store fronts past Mi Casita was excellent! Puerto Rican breakfast treats, Empanadillas, and local caffe con leche.
  4. Don Carlos--just up the street, about halfway between the Intercontinental and Metropol, we thought their mofongo was really good.

If you're in Old San Juan, on the advice of a local, we found Mojito's. Hands down the BEST meal we had in Puerto Rico, period!

Is there something specific you recommnd eating there? We will have two late night departures from San Juan and maybe we'll go there for dinner one of those nights.

Do they serve lunch? Is it easy to walk to from the OSJ docks?

Thanks.

Re: Mojito's. It's very close and an easy slight up hill walk--2 blocks up from Pier 4 on Calle Recinto in OSJ. They serve lunch and dinner, inside and outside dining. And they had one of the cleanest bathrooms in town. Ask your server what the specials are and what the fresh fish of the day is. Basically everything is wonderful and the only place I could find to make a true daiquiri, on the rocks, from scratch, not frozen from a mix. We had the whole red snapper deep friend with house rice and salad, grilled chicken with red beans and rice, fried calamari appetizer and lots of daiquiri's!
