Beach Nice??? - did cave tubing already!

Was in Belize two years ago on a very not nice day. People were friendly, but area was depressing. Our port includes Belize again - are there any nice beach areas at all???? We did cave tubing previously, but would not want to do any excursions again here - I was nervous the entire time about making back to the ship as we traveled along some not to good roads. Thanks for any imput.
