Clever Ideas for a Door Decortation Sign

My husband and I have been together for nearly 10 years, married since 2002. We never got to have a honeymoon because I had kids already from my first marriage and we paid for our own wedding so there was no money left for that.

We are going to FINALLY take our honeymoon. We are planning on going on a 4 night RC cruise possibly in March or April (boy I wish we could go longer but we homeschool and I am caregiver for my husband's elderly grandmother so 4 days away is a luxary).

Anyway....

I would like to make some sort of door decoration to celebrate this long awaited event.

Does anyone have any clever ideas for me?

How about ideas to make our time special and memorable?

Before our last cruise I went to Party City & bought some tropical, bon voyage type party decorations & decorated our cabin. We had some left over so I put some up around the outside of our door. Just remember to bring some tape.

You can also arrange to have some champagne or wine, maybe some chocolate dipped strawberries delivered to your room so they're in your cabin when you board. You can do that online before you go.

If your ship has a specialty restaurant it's nice to splurge on that at least one night. I like to go on formal night.

Take a stroll around deck around sunset.

Have fun! :D

Once I was on cruise out of Fort Lauderdale after just leaving a crazy Halloween weekend in New Orleans. Somewhere in NOLA I acquired this funny flower toy that had a bendable stem......so, I attached it to the little "mail box" outside my cabin door. It made it MUCH easier to remember which side of the ship my cabin was located when I poured myself into bed at night. On the last night of the cruise I was packing up all my stuff and was about to "undecorate" my door, some of the guests on my floor were walking to dinner. The lady said "honey please don't take that flower down, it's the only way we can find our room when we are drunk. Then Purser even knows where our cabin is in relation the flower".

So I got creative and wrote a farewell note from the Flower and hung it on the door. About 20 people signed the note that night with Thank You's, including the security guy and the Asst. Purser. LOL

I got this idea here on CC, but I loved it and enjoyed it. Last May, my hubby and I went on a cruise for our 25th wedding anniversary. I went to the party store and bought a sign that said: Just Married. Then I used a sharpie and wrote, 25 years ago and our date on the sign. I thought it was cute. The last day, we were lying in our beds, packed and relaxing and waiting for them to call our area to deboard. I remember a little sweet voice that knocked on the door and yelled, Happy Anniversary! Probably the voice of about a 5 year old child. It was so sweet.

We have always decorated our cabin door. At first it was to make it easier for the younger members of you family to find our room...Than just for fun we decorated our doors on our other cruise for son's HS graduation- For Easter (including an Easter basket for the room steward).- Tropical decor made it easier for Grandma to find her room- especially after a night in the casinos and a few gin and tonics----

We are trying to think of a theme for our July cruise....

We have found great themed packs of wall door decor in teacher supply stores, usually used for bulletin boards.

The dollar store always has lawn flags (for a dollar)! I like the lawn flag size because it is smaller than most, and fits perfectly on the width of the door without interfering with the door handle. What I also like is that you can get seasonal flags and not just ones with flip flops or smiley sun faces :o

Going on a cruise again in 10 days. Never thought about putting anything on my door, but now I want to!! Will be on Carnival-- what are the doors made of?? In other words, will a magnet work, or should I get some sticky stuff to hold the stuff on the door??

Regardless if the doors are metal or not, bring DUCK TAPE (wrap some around an old plastic credit card or gift card that is no longer usable). Duck tape is a MUST on any cruise anyway, so you should have it on your pack list. Door decorating is so much fun and will make you smile each time you enter your cabin! :)

One of the first things I always do when we unpack is to decorate the door. I do something seasonal if there's a holiday around that time, but at a minimum I put up our "Cruise Critic" sign with out login name, the American and New Mexico state flags, a pink breast cancer survivor ribbon, a yellow support the troups ribbon and "welcome aboard" sign. I have a collection of interesting stuff I can pick from when we're packing. [No problem finding our cabin]. Frequently people will stop us as we are leaving and tell us they have been reading our door. I always bring two sided foam tape with me just in case, but almost everything I hang on the door is magnetic. Have fun with it! Ann

so a while back I made a scrapbook of our last cruise. I have some left over sheets of paper, one with a cruise ship on it. I used letters to write "Ben and Meg's Cabin" on it and put some left over tropical stickers/bon voage stickers I had. Just made it an hour ago for our cruise in 11 days :)
