How to wear a sarong?

I have been advised to wait until I get to Thailand (not on a ship)and buy a sarong to wear when I need a skirt. How do I wear one...any pictures? Do you wear something under it? Also showing a lot of skin is frowned on in this area.

I hope some of you more knowledgeble fashionistas can help.

We will be taking our first cruise in March to the eastern Caribbean. The sarong looks beautiful. Can anyone tell me a price range and a good place to buy one in either Nassau, St. Thomas or St.Martin?

There are local flea markets in all these ports and you can pick them up for as little as $10US.
