stuNYC Posted January 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2010 I am on the POA 1/23 cruise I can't take "typical shore excursions" offered by ship or Roberts and don't want to drive everwhere myself. My DW needs a wheelchair and has difficulty getting onto a van. I know that renting a car is the least expensive option ,but I want to see the sites with an informed tour guide rather than drive to them by myself. I usually take ship excursions by myself in the AM and in the PM my wife and I would like to hire a local guide to take us for a 3-4 hours tour of the big island, kauai and kona Any prior experiences with guides on these islands and contact info would be greatly appreciated. I have surfed the web and have called several tour operators without success I am in a state of panic so close to sailing without any planned excursions Thanks in advance for saving my sanity
br00ke Posted January 13, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2010 If you need a guide in Maui, I have used Steve at http://www.mauicustomtours.com He did a great job arranging a tour to meet our needs. We were travelling with 2 little children (6months and 3 years). We saw so much in one day.
apeller Posted January 16, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 16, 2010 Just posted this in another thread. We used Rickystours.com in Hilo. He was a great guide, with a clean van, and very reasonably priced. The tour we did included: Hilo Tour *Banyan Drive *Liliuokalani Garden *Rainbow Falls *Macadamia Nut Co. *Akatsuka Orchid Garden *Black Sand Beach (Richardson Ocean Beach Park) Volcano National Park *Steam Vents *Jaggar Museum *Halemaumau Crater (home of our volcano fire goddess and also the main vent of Kilauea volcano for the past 100 years) *1982 Lava Flow *Keanakakoi Crater *Thurston Lava Tube *Kilauea Iki Crater
