snelsonbrown Posted September 4, 2010 #601 Share Posted September 4, 2010 Hi Shirley - just a few questions regarding tickets and Cocoa Beach in general. We are booked into La Quinta Oceanfront arriving evening of Oct 25th & departing Oct 28th. I emailed Chris asking if we are able to purchase ticket at Hotel for Space Center. Chris said they do not have them, but to order online or through CVB. I am guessing CVB is Cocoa Visitor Bureau ? Hubby is not sure what day he will visit Space Center so we don't want to order online. I read on your information post that the other La Quinta Hotel offers discount tickets. Should I email them to see if we can arrange one through them, or do you suggest any other avenue in Cocoa Beach. We will have Rental car, and I also read that parking is free at the Space Center ? How far is downtown Cocoa Beach from La Quinta Oceanfront ? I will be exploring your beautiful town on my own, on day Hubby goes to Space Center. Will I need to arrange taxi or take bus service ? Reading your many posts, I have a few stops I would like to make. eg: Fashion store that sells cruise wear, maybe manicure and other great stops. Take care and thank you for your time. Hope you have a restful weekend. Sharon G Hello Sharon, Can you please drop me a note at snelsonbrown at aol dot com Thanks Shirley

cruisingrightalong Posted September 4, 2010 #603 Share Posted September 4, 2010 We will be in Port Canaveral after our Monarch cruise to see the Thunderbirds perform on Oct. 30-31st....will be staying at the Hampton Inn on Atlantic...seems that the flying envelope over the water will allow us to stay on our balcony to see it and/or walk right to the beach...the main event is at the park just down from there. Anyone had any experience watching the Thunderbirds in Cocoa Beach? We are also watching the Blue Angels in Jacksonville the weekend before...good thing there was a Monarch sailing in between! Closest grocery to the Hampton Inn is back out towards the port? Lou

Lou Hello Lou, You will have a perfect view of seeing the Thunderbirds - of course the most perfect place would be at the park across from Patrick Air Force station but traffic will be horrendous - my suggestion? Go on to the be beach behind the Hampton Inn to see it - I have always enjoyed their shows and very electrifying Now as for the closest grocery store -that would be Winn Dixie which a couple of blocks North of the HI on the west side of the road - it is right across the street from Ron Jons. ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cruisingrightalong Posted September 4, 2010 #606 Share Posted September 4, 2010 snelsonbrown-thanks for the heads up....yep the park would be nice but we have seen the Blue Angels/Thunderbirds about 6 times so no need to get totally involved...have friends driving up from Miami/FLL for the weekend so its a hang out and watch...taking the sports chairs to sit in though!!! tinkerme1 Posted September 4, 2010 #609 Share Posted September 4, 2010 Hi Shirley! Have a question for you. We are going to depart the Freedom of the Seas on October 31 and since the Air Show is in that area, will shuttles be delayed getting in and out of the Port that day? If so, that may change some of my plans. Hope you're doing well! Again, thanks for all the latest and greatest info on Port Canaveral! P.S. Do you still do baskets for delivery to Disney?:D:D

snelsonbrown Posted September 4, 2010 #613 Share Posted September 4, 2010 Hello all, here we sit with wall to wall traffic - Cocoa Beach Pier is having an awesome Kidney Foundation fund raiser with prizes, entertainment, music - a lot of stuff for all ages - I can hear the music from there - (got my window open ;-) - Norm and I just got back from Rusty's after a great meal of oysters and shrimps and even though the traffic was thick, there was no problem. Got home safe and sound. Hope those that came here to cruise had the opportunity to go over and enjoy all that is being offered/. Anyhow will say so long for today, each have a wonderful and fun filled day and most of all a safe one, Its always a sincerely pleasure to chat with all - tommorrow will continue working on the update - I hope that it will answer just about all the questions you may have. snelsonbrown Posted September 5, 2010 #615 Share Posted September 5, 2010 Okay where is Rusty's.....should just read the whole report you gave...did print it off....??? Has Grill's changed its name??? Lou Hello again Lou, Rusty's, Milligan, Fishlips and Grills are located in what is known as "the cove" and it is located here in Cape or some call it Port Canaveral - its a strip that has day and nighttime fishing charter boats, fish markets, and at one time, the Sun Cruz casino ship - Nope Grills has not changed its name. Everything is the same out there although there is plans to open a "vendor's tent" where visitors can go and buy stuff to take home. do not know if and when it will open. Norm and I like Rusty's mostly for the atmosphere and the casual thing - they do have inside and outside sitting. Their food is pretty good and we sit where we can watch the ships go by. Nothing spectacular, but I guess it reminds us of the Raw oyster bar in Key West. Anyhow have a great holiday weekend and keep it a safe one :-)

tinkerme1 Posted September 5, 2010 #618 Share Posted September 5, 2010 does anyone know what you need to travel on the monarch of the seas if you are a green card holder? This information is straight from RCCL Requirements: "Alien Registration Card (Green Card) U.S. lawful permanent residents will continue to be able to use their Alien Registration Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security or other valid evidence of permanent residence status to apply for entry to United States. Card renewal is an important matter. ARC holders (United States permanent residents) with expired cards may be considered "out of status" and may be denied entry / reentry into the United States. If your ARC was issued over 10 years ago, you should check the expiration date printed on the front of the card. If your card is expired, or it is about to expire, you should renew your card before you sail. If you are holding an old edition ARC WITHOUT an expiration date, you will not be detained from entering the United States but U.S. Customs and Border Protection highly suggests that you apply for a new card before you sail. For additional information, visit: http://www.usimmigrationsupport.org/greencard_renewal.html "

My next top of page will be 641 because I see 40 post per page. Since you will miss post 621 we'll just have to get the post count up to 640 when you are ready on Monday so you can post on 641. PLEASE SAVE POST 641 for SHIRLEY's UPDATE!:) Unless no one else posts tonight and then she can use 621 Edited September 6, 2010 by peg013
