SuperCoolOne Posted January 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2010 Has anyone had any problems or issues with leaving their kids at the camps while doing something in port? Obviously, we would have to keep an eye on the time to make sure the kids didn't leave without us. And, if the kids didn't want to stay, we would change our plans. SuperCoolOne Posted January 13, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted January 13, 2010 They will be 3 1/2, 6, and 7 1/2 in April. They are used to going to child care at our local Y when I work out and they are all in some type of school setting as well.
PictureMom Posted January 13, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2010 My son was six on our Carnival cruise two years ago. In Cozumel we left him at Camp Carnival while we got off the ship and did a little shopping at the pier. We knew he would have much more fun with other kids rather than dragging him through a lot of shops. It worked out just fine. I ran back to the ship after a few hours and picked him up. Worked out great for us, but we only had him there for a few hours. Not sure if you were planning on leaving them for the whole day, but even then I'm sure it would be fine. You can give the staff your cell phone number so they can call you if there are any issues. Good luck!
DaniellefromOttawa Posted January 14, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2010 Hi! We left our 7 year old in Camp Canival last March Break Cruise when we went to Puerto Rico, it was an evening 3:30 - 12 stop and he begged us to let him stay with his friends. We took our older one ashore as he wanted to come and enjoyed a relaxing evening touring that the younger one would have hated and whined through. No regrets here! Everyone was happy! 14ersco Posted January 14, 2010 #6 Share Posted January 14, 2010 We had a problem with leaving our DS in camp one port afternoon on the Elation last month. We were booked on a Carnival excursion that left at 11:30 AM and was to last 3 1/2 hours; getting us back to the ship at 3 PM. Camp was to close at 5 PM that afternoon. Well the roads were under construction and some of the people on our trip were slow; so we ended up coming back 2 hours late. This made us late to the camp by a few minutes after 5. To compound the lateness was the fact that this staff always wanted the kids out about 15 minutes early any time they closed or went to the charge time. So if the Capers said babysitting fees started at 10 PM they started at 9:45 PM, closed for lunch at 12 noon they shut down at 11:30 AM, etc. Following their logic they said we were now close to 20 minutes late, not 5 minutes, and they proceeded to charge us for this time. They would not change their minds even with this being a Carnival excursion. So I signed the late charge and went directly to guest services. In no time at all guest service called the camp and the charge was dropped. It was nice that the camp would be open on a port day and take our DS to lunch; just wish the last day of our trip had ended more pleasantly.
