Progreso excursions!

We just booked a cruise to Progreso that leaves in 2 weeks! Does anyone have any suggestions about what is the best thing to do there? Is it better to go off on our own or book through the cruise line? We are wanting to do some sight seeing, maybe go to a beach and swim and a little shopping. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Keep reading this board; there's much information available. Ship's excursions are no better and sure to be significantly more expensive. Me, I hate the herd mentality of tours in general. Some times they're kind of necessary. Autoprogreso has a really good reputation. They are the same company that provides the courtesy bus service into town.

Also, check out http://www.yucatantoday.com for more information on Progreso, Merida and the Yucatan state. There are many options for your day.

we were on the fantasy last year went to progreso not much to do there or see.the best would be to go on your own the ship offers the corona beach party for $55. And you can buy it off the ship there in progreso for was then $15.00 this beach club is right in town you can swim eat and drink for the $15 since your right in town can shop and sight see theres a tour open air tour bus in front of swap meet area thats worth the price think it was $2.00 for the tour of progreso. You also have access to the beach free of charge if you just want swim and spend time on beach .other than this i would just shop at the ship dock lots of shops there then go back on the ship.

We will be in Progreso Feb 22nd and will do the city tour through autoprogreso at the dock. We used Autoprogreso on our last cruise there and did their combination tour of the Dz mayan ruins and Merida city tour. This time we want to spend more time in the city but really enjoyed the ruins tour. The combo tour was $40 each and the clincher....Cruisers who booked the same excursion onboard were with our tour! So it is a great deal and the company has a great rep. Happy Cruisin!!
