maidut Posted January 25, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 25, 2010 We are thinking or hiring a car when in Livorno. The car rental firm will program the GPS to get us to Pisa (we want to do a quick stop), then head to Florence. The GPS will be programmed with the parking garage under the train station. On the way to Florence from Pisa, or on the way back to port, we want to see some of the tuscan countryside. I've read that some private tours take the scenic route, so see a winey or olive oil tasting. I know we will have limted time, but if we can take in some beautiful views, we will be very happy. I am trying to figure out how scenic the motorway will be, or if there are any stops along the way you recommend? Any suggestions or input are welcome :)
euro cruiser Posted January 25, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 25, 2010 After stopping at Pisa, driving to Florence, parking, and seeing some of Florence, I doubt you'll have much time for meandering on your way back. You could take the road through Empoli as a change of pace from the Autostrada, but it's a four lane highway, not a slow local road. Google maps is so sophisticated now that you can actually see the view - use the street view and you can compare what you'll see along one road vs. the other.
