Highlandgal Posted January 30, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2010 Can anybody help me, has anybody managed to connect your Ipod to the Ships Wifi if you buy internet minutes, just as you do with a laptop. We're hoping this will save us taking our laptop as we can use our Skype app on our Ipod touch to phone home. The Ipod connects to the home network exactly the same way as a laptop so theoretically it should connect on the ship but want to make certain it does or I will take laptop as well so we can Skype. Hope somebody can help. Thanks :D 2 Weeks to go - Cant wait :D
Badlands99 Posted January 30, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 30, 2010 Even if you're able to connect to the ships wifi, I've seen enough reviews here that mention the dismal connection speeds on board that I'd be surprised if you'd have enough bandwidth to make a Skype call. lisaland Posted January 31, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 31, 2010 Not sure where you are going but I noticed that in Cozumel that Paradise Beach has free wifi for 15 minutes. Long enough for you to connect and send an email. HTH. Lisa
bluegirlum Posted January 31, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 31, 2010 I wouldn't count on being able to do it. I've heard that they have disabled Skype on the ships--so people will use their phones. :( Not sure where you're going, but as someone else said, I would try doing it from port. Highlandgal Posted January 31, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted January 31, 2010 Thanks for the information, I did wonder if the bandwidth would cause problems. It stinks but makes sense that they might disable Skype on the ships. :( We are on 12 day EoS around Caribbean so hopefully might find some Wifi spots on land to Skype from. Will try to find out if there are any in St Maarten, St Thomas, Barbados, San Juan, Antigua, Dominica. 13 days to go :D 11 days till we leave Scotland :D

I can't remember the name of it, but if you're on the pier where the water taxi comes in, it's the first bar on the right. It's got a big front porch. It's kind of slow, but we sat there and enjoyed a few drinks while we checked e-mail. Hopefully that can work for you! Have a wonderful trip.
