Buying under age child alcohol

So then everyone agrees...it is not legal for an adult to feed alcohol to an underage person....and that parents should in no way give alcohol to their underage children either...in their home or out........and yes, I am proudly defensive of what I have accomplished considering so many parents are not doing great jobs it would appear by some of the questions they ask about is it ok to break the rules......but their kids are not my responsibility...nor are mine theirs.....thankfully:)

A wild guess here..........cause at 18 you are legally an adult:confused:

but may or may not be legally able to drink alcohol...that is the question you should want the answer to...not if they are legal adults or not.....and I for one want to know the legal drinking age in Rowan55's state......that would answer the question.....and I am not sure some of you understand what Devil's Advocate means....it is suppose to entice just the type of thought provoking responses that my post has done.........

So if it does not matter as long as you are responsible, why do your kids have to wait until 18? why not 16 if they are up to it, or 15?

I didn't necessarily say that. I'm not sure of when they will be allowed a drink here or there. My kids are 9 and 10 at the moment, so we're not quite there yet. When I was 14 or so, my parents began allowing me to have a wine cooler or pina colada on New Years or at wedding receptions. I never went to parties or did anything wild as a high schooler, I was quite sheltered and on a short leash. I don't think the drink I was allowed here and there had any sort of negative impact on me. In fact, it was probably led me to have a much healthier attitude towards alcohol than many of my college associates. For the record, my parents rarely, if ever drink - they just didn't see a problem with allowing a small amount here and there when the occasion called for it.

You seem to be quite challenged when it comes to simple reading. There are numerous exceptions to the legal drinking age laws in the various states. Many of those laws have been quoted or linked to on this thread. In addition the CO of a military post withing 90 miles of a jurisdiction with a drinking age below 21 can lower the drinking age on his post at his own discretion. Further the USA insular territories of Guam, American Samoa, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico all have 18 drinking ages. The United States does not have a law making all drinking by under 21's illegal except in your fantasies.

Further, on a Carnival ship at sea no law controls the legal age of consumption for passengers over 18 year of age, a cruise line rule does; not a law, a rule.

Legal drinking age is 21, age to get into bars, 18. Go figure. Minors (meaning UNDER 18) are allowed to drink at home with parent or guardian present. You may not like it, but it's the law here!

THE ABOVE POST WAS NOT WRITTEN BY KURBANFAN...LOL

Your questions are thought provoking. But with that said, no one advocated anyone giving anyone elses under age child alcohol.

I get where you are coming from though, and I have had to face that decision to an extent. My son age 20 came home after being deployed. He brought two of his buddies with him who were also being transferred to Norfolk. One was married with a new baby and we allowed him to stay here a couple of days while they scoped out their new duty station and the housing situation. They were all under the age of 21. They all ate me out of house and home, and they all brought 12 packs of beer with them when they got here. We didn't buy it for them, but it didn't bother me that they drank it. They hung out, played some Xbox, and got up the next morning and took care of themselves. These young men, and others treat my house like home away from home, and spend holidays and weekends here since they are so far from home. They are now all over 21, and still doing wonderful. If you didn't want your child to hang out at my house, or they didn't want to be friends with my kids, that would be their loss. (plus my son is drop dead gorgeous, is an E-5 after 5 years, is getting his Engineering degree while in the Navy and is quite a catch, so he has never had a problem finding companionship lol)

Can my 17 year old child play in the casino? Will they just look the other way?

Actually - When DS was 16 he hung out in the casino the entire cruise with my brother. DS didn't shave that week, and walked around like he belonged in there, so I guess he looked old enough. He said a couple of times employees asked him if he was 18 and he said yes and they never asked for proof. He didn't set at a table or attempt to play until the last night, which also happened to be the night of Super Bowl. The casino was not very crowded that night. I think a lot of people went to the Super Bowl party and then were just too partied out to try gambling. The casino was probably willing to take anyone's money at that point. Anyway, he set down at a blackjack table with $20 and walked away with over $200. What was funny was that my nephew was just a year younger than DS, and he couldn't set foot in the casino without being kicked out. So depending on how old your son looks, he may be able to gamble in the casino.

The only problem is if he hit the big jackpot on the slots he would have to show ID and SS#:D

Man would THAT suck!!!

When I was 14 or 15 we took a 1 day cruise to the Bahamas and went to the casino there. The casino employees were kind enough to wait until I had lost the last of my money at the slots before they asked my age and told me I couldn't gamble.

How nice of them! DS is 21 now. When we were at Atlantis last year he had been playing one slot for a little while. When he got up my DH reached over and played the machine and won about $300 on his first pull. DS was not happy!
