30th Anniversary Cruise!

My husband and I wanting to plan a cruise for a 30th wedding anniversary in August 2010. We both will be 48 at the time of the cruise, I would like to have suggestions on what cruise would be most suitable for us.

August is the only time that will work for us to cruise and I am afraid of booking a cruise with a 1000+ kids on board because of summer vacation. We absolutely love kids but want a more of a less chaotic atmosphere. We do want a fun, lively cruise with a larger adult to kids ratio. Although we are not looking for a bingo, shuttleboard crowd either. I would love your suggestions, oh we are looking at a 7 possibly 8 night cruise. Thanks

Well.. I would suggest you take a European Cruise for 8 days. there will always be kids but when adding the price of the flight as well as the length of the cruise, that will cut down the number of kids on board. I can't say it will be lively but you will find adults your age on the cruise.

Darn! We've also booked a cruise to celebrate our 30th anniversary, but we're doing the June 6th to Alaska cruise on Princess. Would have been fun to sail with you especially since you're celebrating the same occasion!

If we were to take a Mediterannean cruise will the cruise lines, Carnival, RCL, NCL and Princess probably be my a best bet for a possibly livlier fun and entertainment?

I would say Carnival or RCL tend to have more going on for passengers then NCL or Princess. But then it depends on what you mean by fun. If you want a night life then go with the first two. If you want elegant and sedate, then I suggest the other two. I guess I'm one of those people who like night time excitement. :D

:confused:Has NCL not expanded the 'freestyle' no-chic and less frills (not elegant) cruising to cover all ships and itiniraries?

We were informed they HAVE done so, that was one of the reasons for not considering NCL on our last cruise and could be a consideration for someone with a 'special occasion' as well.

Celebrity is my line of choice, and from what you are saying this could be a good fit for you as well. They tend to have significantly less children than Royal, Carnival and Princess. Yet they have plenty of entertainment geared towards people in their 30s, 40s, 50s versus HAL (another line with few children) that is a bit more geared towards seniors.

I am not sure if you are looking for Caribbean, Alaksa, Europe or what, but Celebrity has a presence in all of these. Their newest ships (Solstice class) are particularly impressive and have more to offer people in their 30s and 40s than Celebrity's older ships. If you are thinking Caribbean, Solstice offers 7 nighters out of Ft. Lauderdale and Equinox 10-11 nighters out of Ft. Lauderdale. Solstice is there year round and Equinox (same class of ship) sails in Europe from late spring through early fall. Millenium is their nicest ship in Alaska (7 night trips from mid May through early September).

I am not sure if you are smokers or not, but Celebrity also has the fewest smoking areas out of the mass market lines, so this would either be a plus or minus depending on if you smoke. Even the casino is 100% smoke free on Celebrity ships as are all indoor bars/lounges but one.

It seems like there are a lot of 30th anniversary cruisers out there, too bad we couldn't all get and celebrate together. For anyone else out there who will be celebrating a memorable occasion in August and are cruising post a reply and let us know. Thanks, keep the suggestions coming, I have had a few great ideas and are putting some things together now.

1980 was a great year. We think we're leaning toward Celebrity Solstice either Aug 8 or 15, which is either the Eastern or Western itinerary.

Is there anyone else out there sailing at this time? There is no activity on rolls calls yet for the 15th, as soon as I book I will post and hopefully get a group started.

We don't need an occasion--we like cruising anytime. We missed our 25th by one year, so we called our 26th anniversary cruise the 25th! We cruised last August on Carnival. The prices were less but there were still lots of kids aboard. Even so, it's like you don't see the kids so much if you are having a good time within your own circle of friends. Happy Anniversary. Bon Voyage!

We are celebrating our 30th this year by going on a Mediterranean cruise (our first cruise). We will be going in October as that time works for us and the weather should still be warm but not too hot. We will be going on the Celebrity Century and will have lots of European cities as ports of call. We don't expect many kids in October or along the way in our travels. Have a great anniversary.
