top_frog Posted February 4, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 4, 2010 I have learned on these boards to continually check the rates for a booked cruise to see if they do drop. Last night I received a $480 OBC for a price drop for a "Resident Rate". I went to celebritycruise.com and went thru the steps to book the same cruise that we have booked for 3/14/2010. There is a dropdown on the page to select what state you live in. I selected Massachusetts and then went to the next page and selected our cabin type. I noticed that they had standard rates and then below that there were "Resident Rates". My cabin (1A Veranda) was $210 lower per person. I called celebrity 1-800-647-2251 and spoke to a cruise specialist and they confirmed that they had new discounted resident rates for MA residents. We received a $480 OBC for the difference. Please go to the site and check your rates again. If they are lower, call celebrity and request an OBC for the difference. Jason

top_frog Posted February 4, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted February 4, 2010 HighRidge1 - Glad I could help. Enjoy the $400 OBC and have a great cruise. I hope everyone checks up on this. A few things that I have learned since doing this. -- It looks like this only applies to veranda and above. I did not see this for oceanview and inside cabins. -- states that are eligible - AZ, CA, IL, KS, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, NC, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OR, RI, VA AND WA. -- i looked at my payment info online and it was all messed up. Looks like they deducted -1000 from my bill, but it then said I owed $520 instead of getting a $480 credit. I called X and they said it took 24-48 hours to get corrected thru a different department. They then sent me an updated booking confirmation and it was all fixed. I am still paying the same amount as originally charged, but they lowered the rate for the cabin and its now showing $480 in OBPP - OBC PRC PRT (pre-purchased on board credits). So its all good. -- Cruise insurance cost has been lowered since I am paying less. -- OBC can only be used "ON BOARD". If you pre-book specialty dining or shore excursions, you will still pay for those on your credit card. These will be loaded onto your card when you board the ship and then can be used for all purchases (dining, excursions, shopping, drinks etc.) once on board. You just can't use them before you board. top_frog Posted February 4, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted February 4, 2010 Small typo in the above state list. It should be OH (ohio), not OR.
Solstice23 Posted February 4, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 4, 2010 Must be nice we are Canadian and there is not rez rate and we are a group of 75 on the Solstice March 14th 2010 ...sucks! But they do have a senior rate so some of my family has gotten price adjustments on the rooms with someone over 55!
Lanie102 Posted February 4, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 4, 2010 Does this only apply if you booked through Celebrity? What if you used a travel agent???

earri Posted February 4, 2010 #8 Share Posted February 4, 2010 That's too bad, as I live in FL, and am booked on Solstice in August. Oh well, plenty of time between now and then for me to pin my hopes upon a price drop.

World according to Celebrity does not have the state of Delaware in it (although it seems to have every single other one around it, and they always get the resident discounts at the same time). Talking to customer service led nowhere.
