wines60 Posted February 7, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2010 Have looked at the diningroom diagrams for Vista ships, but cannot tell for sure which tables on the lower level would be tables for two and by a window. We are on the Zuiderdam for the April 20 cruise, and have selected open dining on purpose. We love having the advantage of showing up to eat when we "wish", and enjoy meeting others. Since we will be celebrating our 50th anniversary, there may be one or two evenings when we'd prefer to dine alone. Any help with table numbers, waiters?? Krazy Kruizers Posted February 7, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2010 The wait staff are rotated every 10 days. This gives the crew who work downstairs a chance to work upstairs and vice versa. The few tables of 2 by the windows -- are very close together -- one person sits on the bench seat and looks inwards and the other person has a chair and looks out to sea. The majority of the tables for 2 are inside.
jtl513 Posted February 7, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 7, 2010 I agree with KK that there aren't any good 2-tops near windows. We like 169 or 171 because they are not just inches away from a table for 4, and they are near waiter stations so that it's easy to catch the waiter's eye if you need something. And you can both kinda look over and see something out a window UNLESS someone at a table over there asks that the drapes be closed because of sun. (We eat early.) Some people might not like the foot traffic past them though.
duck tune Posted February 7, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 7, 2010 Once you get on board there is usually a larger diagram of the dining room located near the entrance. You can usually get a better idea from there. DH and I have done open seating two or three times and the first night we generally just ask for a table for two and see what we get. One time we were given a table for two in the aft section near a four top and had a nice view of the wake. We have also been lucky to get great stewards so just asked for the same table number when making reservations the next day. We too like to eat early so depending upon the time of year and direction that the ship is sailing sometimes the drapes are closed on one side of the ship. garydm Posted February 8, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Unfortuntately, I recall that most of the true tables for two are right next to a wait station so it is pretty noisy and busy. The other two tops are essentially two seats of a six seat table that are about 5 inches from the next table. Gary
tarps14 Posted February 8, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 8, 2010 We asked for a true table for two (not one of those two top's inches from a four top) and they took a four top on the raised center level (of the lower dining room) and made a two person out of it. We weren't the only ones they did this for. As we were leaving the first night we asked the maitre'd if we could have the same table for the rest of the 11 day cruise at 7:45 and he said absolutely. Problem solved.:)
JennyandJoeS Posted February 8, 2010 #7 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Never had a problem getting a table for two for anytime dining. Just made the reservation outside the Lido at breakfast for dinner that night. A window table really doesn't make much difference, since it will be dark outside and you can't see anything. We prefer having dinner a bit later so a window view is really moot. Thanks for the heads up.
