Port of Miami and checked liquor and wine

Recommended Posts

We are on the Splendor on a cruise in May and we have paid for a Bar Setup in our cabin, we may still need to smugle a small bit (Vermouth, etc.) to mix with our drinks as "BV" does not provide the mixes etc for all drinks, but that is not the point. If a lot of people smuggle, how big is the room on the ship to store all the luggage with possible booz? I doubt that it is that big, and that it is worh it for the cruise line to pull all the bags in question and set them out for hand inspection on board (but that is their choice if they wish).

Cruise lines have a high priority for security to protect their passengers, and their ships first (and they do a great job from what I see)! If they see something of question in the luggage, and it is of major concern, I would think that they would remove it from the ship first (or not load it at all), and check it prior to sailing, things of minor concern would then, I think, be adressed on the ship at random.

You may or not loose your booz in a luggage check, but if you do, there is the next port of call where you can catch up on any great missed drinks on shore! (eat on the ship and drink off the ship if you want to reduce your cost).

The cruise lines may rethink their liquor policy if revenue drops, which it would if a lot off passengers start to do this. But if prices for drinks onboard are fair value, or you can bring some limited booze on board, instead of wine, which is allowed; or buy a bottle of non duty free liquore on board for the cabin instesd of having to go thru BV prior to sailing, all or most of the smuggling would probably end and all would win!

I doubt the cruise line will raise the price of the cruise if this was to happen, they would instead work to solve the booz issue, as keeping you onboard to spend your dollars with them is the goal!

This is just my opinion, and is not based on scientific study or fact or even a guarantee of reality, but I stand on my right to express it!

Have a great cruise!

Allways remember: on shore the drinks are usually less expensive than on the ship, and if you make a fool of your self only those around you will remember! HA HA, its great to have fun on vacation!

Have a great cruise.

This is a forum where people share, then defend their opinions.

I don't understand the need to attack someone who's opinion is

different.

In the end, you will do what you want to do, be it smuggling,

saving chairs, taking your kids into adult pools, or any other

number of hot buttons you'll see on these boards.

Therefore, I find the name-calling and drama an excercise in futility.

Just my humble, unsolicited opinion.

Happy travels to ALL!

Sorry for the spelling errors on my prior post, I should have spell checked, but my point is this; if cruise lines have reasonable prices for their drinks, and allow you to bring some amount on to the ship, all will win. If some passengers are a problem on the ship (for any reason) deal with them, but dont take it out on all the other passengers just to make it easy!

Both my wife and I drink, so I am not setting myself up as a critic of anyones choice of lifestyle, but some of the worst cases of "drunks" we have seen on a cruise were sitting (sort of) at the bar on the lido deck and still being served by the bar tender, and not in their cabin enjoying a private drink!

Last time we brought liqour (not wine) on embarkation Carnival took it and never gave it back, although Norwegian does, go figure!

So I wonder how the program is going to work, you put your 3 bottles in your unlocked luggage,

they scan/xray it and find it, take it out because you left it unlocked.

you don't get it at in you luggage because they found it, you figure "damn the caught me" and don't say anything, because that is the rule "no carry on alcohol"

End of the cruise comes around and you DON'T get your booze back.

how do you prove you had it to begin with? You did not say anything when it was not in your luggage, because you were caught. They did not tell you because your luggage was unlocked.

.....

Step in the Dishonest cruiser, Last day of the cruise, "hey pursers desk, were the he** is my booze? I had 6 bottles I was bringing on and it is gone, you owe me $xyz

Well would the following rules from cruise critic make you a hyprocrate?A poster has stated "we get it" but you then go to post again and publicaly state you are doing this to annoy. That would be disruption in my book.

OK, so how do you think the people who don't drink are affecting the prices for all of us? Why is it up to the people who drink to keep the prices down for everyone else - it's kinda like saying the drinkers are paying part of the nondrinker's fare isn't it? Like I've said before - there should be a nonrefundable bar credit included in everyone's fare - drinkers or not (can be used for pop or virgin drinks) then everyone would be helping to keep the prices from increasing. I'm sure alot of smuggler's bills at the end of cruise are still much higher than those of the people who do not drink.

It just floors me that the people who bring their own alcohol on board are being blamed for price increases. There are many people that cruise and have next to nothing on their S&S acc't at the end - they are affecting the profit margin much more than someone who brings a few drinks on with them!

kind a like a cover charge, or auto tipping. (but don't go there)

Now that you mention it, i'll bet the smuggleres are the same people that let their kids in adult pools and hot tubs.

Maybe a little of subject...Wondering about the sweet tea vodka. My hubby loves arnold palmers. Would it not be the same to do some tea and lemonade and add regular vodka? Can you help? we have not had this before.

Not sure...I never drank vodka at all until I came across the sweat tea kind. I am mostly a beer person but was looking for something to fill my share of the rum runners. Sweat tea vodka mixed with the dining room lemonade is delicious!

you can guarantee this... the smugglers don't smuggle booze onboard so that they can sit in their room with the lights out and sulking... they (we) are there to PARTY - And when you are partying, you drop a lot more money that if you were sitting by the pool drinking free tea. you drop more money in the casino, in the shops, on the excursions, in the cruise line owned ports at HMC, Mohogany Bay. YOU KNOW its getting spread around.

Very true! We took 3 rum runners on our first cruise, and still spent $700 onboard, after our $200 obc!

Whew after finally getting through all 11 pages of "Do not Do to" type posts I think I have figured out the easiest solution to what may or not be an issue .......smugglers stop booking cruises out of Miami :) Stick with ports that don't have the fancy technology lol

Exactly,

By the way, you and DH have to bring the watermelons for our cruise,

Chuck

No- not us--

Our group was in the hot tub with drinks and someone told on us cause security came over and made us get out. LOL I'm laughing cause on the next deck down the two hot tubs had people in with drinks. And no we were not causing any kinda scene - just sittin and relaxing. Right after we got out a lady and her 3 kids got in!! LOL!! It was quite comical being that SHE was probably the one to call security! People really need to get over themselves.;) Take a Chill pill:D

I agree, and for the kids thing make one of the hot tubs for kids and the other for adults, and on the adult one, but cup holders so you don't spill you drink in the tub when doing cannon balls in from the side

Hmmmmm....sounds like another disgruntled smuggler having a pout.....

Poor thing....will have to actually PAY for their booze like the rest of us....

Enjoy your land based vacations.....

actualy gma, i will not pay for additional booze, i'll choose not to do that...i will then start petitioning the lines to start charging folks like you for smokes! then you can pay the ridiculous inflated prices if you choose to smoke...but i bet i can survive without a cocktail easier than you can a cigarette lol...

Then tell me one thing, WHY ARE YOU FOLKS TRYING TO BEAT THE SYSTEM AND BREAK THE RULES???

breaking the rules? so you certainly do not speed on the way to the cruise terminal? or ever break a rule? surely so.

lol...give us something better. rule breakers take food off the ship, save chairs, have kids in the adults only etc. rules are broken all the time.

this particular rule has no effect on anyone else! Zero! no one but the person smuggling. so why do so many people care? BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO LIFE!
