fat lass Posted February 9, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2010 Hi We have time to kill after disembarkation in Cape Liberty before our flight back to the UK. We do not want to do the Manhattan sights, as we have a pre-cruise stay, there and also because we will not have time. Any suggestions close by or en-route to Newark Airport. Also, can you give any transportation tips to the airport to include the itinerary? We are sailing with Royal Caribbean. Many thanks. :):):):):):)

Also includes travel details.
Rare mizLORInj Posted February 9, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2010 Jersey Gardens is about all there is to do in that area. There also an Ikea and super duper Toys R Us a bit farther away and across the NJ turnpike from the airport.
EGG Posted February 10, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 10, 2010 I wonder if there is a way to get a car service to go to Liberty Park where they have Liberty Science Center or the ferry to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. I've never seen anyone post this. Here is a map. You can see how close it is. http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?wip=2&v=2&rtp=~&FORM=MSNNAV#JmNwPTQwLjY4MTQxMzgyMTg3NjA1fi03NC4wODQwNzAxMDEzODAzNSZsdmw9MTImc3R5PXImcnRwPXBvcy40MC42ODkyNDU1MzY5MjM0MV8tNzQuMDQ0NTI5NjQ2NjM1MDVfU3RhdHVlJTIwb2YlMjBMaWJlcnR5JTJDJTIwTllfX19lX35wb3MuNDAuNjYwMTc3MDk2NzI0NTFfLTc0LjExMTYwOTAxMTg4ODVfMTQlMjBNaWxpdGFyeSUyME9jZWFuJTIwVGVybSUyQyUyMEJheW9ubmUlMkMlMjBOSl9DYXBlJTIwTGliZXJ0eSUyMENydWlzZV8oMjAxKSUyMDQ3MS0yMTA0X2VfWU41NzJ4MjI5MDczNDM5JnJ0b3A9MH4wfjB+ You can also see the airport on the map. Taxis might work, but what would you do with the luggage. Same question about shopping. What did you do with the luggage.
138east Posted February 10, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 10, 2010 Other folks have gone to Liberty Park, particularly if they have an evening flight to Europe. You go to the airport and rent a car - this is competitive with a cab/car service and solves the luggage storage problem. It's an easy drive (almost all divided highway) even if you aren't used to driving on the right side of the road.

However, the luggage issue is solved by one of two ways if wanting to go to Jersey Gardens, first, RCI provide a hotel room for the afternoon near the airport before flying back to Europe so luggage is left there, secondly, failing that, the Mall is near enough to the airport to drop off your luggage for storage first then go shopping. fat lass Posted February 10, 2010 Author #7 Share Posted February 10, 2010 Hi Thank you all for making the effort to reply. We do not really fancy a shopping trip, as we will be over the baggage allowance already with cruise clothes. I was thinking of maybe a look around Jersey City or Hoboken, providing we can leave our luggage with Royal Caribbean. What do you all think? Is it feasible? Also, when we have collected our luggage before our trip to the airport, what is the best transportation? Many, many thanks :):):):):):)
