hkarnie Posted February 12, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2010 Hi, everyone! I'm getting ready to print my Set Sail Pass, and I'm being asked to choose whether or not I want my credit card to convert the currency charged to my on-board account or if I want Royal Caribbean to do it. Is there a standard answer to this question? If not, how do I compare them? Does it really make a difference or are all currency conversion programs pretty much the same? Help! And thanks! Rare NorbertsNiece Posted February 12, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2010 Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo. IMO do NOT get RCCL to do the conversion. If your CC is in a non US $ currency get the CC to do the conversion for you. THEN the night before the end of your cruise settle up with either cash or travellers cheques. 38anchor Posted February 12, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 12, 2010 If you are from the UK then definitely use your own CC. We have found the rate RCI gives you in comparison is quite poor, and I assume this would go with other currencies as well as sterling. We have also found that even though we choose this on our set sail pass, highlight it at checking-in, this is invariable wrong when we get our final bill - so we have to go to guest services. On our recent mariner cruise, after asking a few times to get this rectified it still wasn't, so I emailed a strong letter of complaint to RCI and got a cheque for £20 back - roughly what the difference was. :D
