quilter06 Posted February 14, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2010 Anyone have comments on GCT cabin arrangements, especially the twin pull down beds?
nbevins Posted February 14, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 14, 2010 the beds themselves are quite comfortable..If you want to nap during day--you can pull down your selves and return them..The daytime couch ois not that comfortable--but the lounge had comfy couches and chairs i did a review of the rhine and moselle last summer..Everything was wonderful(and we have complained about cruise in the past--ocean ones)
gocalfan Posted February 14, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 14, 2010 We have done five river cruises with GCT and found that the beds were pretty comfy. If you would like to watch the beautiful scenery go by, pile the extra blanket and pillow opposite the window side of the bed (foot of the bed) against the wall. I have actually sat in the window on a few of the ships. Now if you like, where your head should be by the window, you can lift up the bed like a recliner, the metal frame under the mattress has different recline positions to watch TV, but why do that when the scenery is so beautiful. Why it doesn't recline on the opposite end, who knows? Be ready not to drop the bed once you release the pin on the top, the bed is slightly heavy. The bed is put down for you during dinner. TIMAS Posted February 19, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 19, 2010 Beware of the Chardonay it is an old tug that was built in 1956 and it is filled with Mold & Mildew. GCT is aware of this old boat and does not care how bad it is for the guests.
happy taveler Posted February 19, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 19, 2010 I also have taken four trips with Gct and I never found the bed to be a problem. They are easy to lower and put back in place if you want to take a nap during the day. I found there was plenty of room to store the suit case under the bed to get it out of the way. PCruzer Posted February 20, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 20, 2010 We have been on 2 GCT river cruises on the Bizet and the Harmony. We found the beds to be very comfortable. The cabin layout is very efficient. On the Bizet we got an upgrade to a balcony cabin. While having a private balcony was great, it made the inside of the room that much smaller. We definitely would not opt to pay extra for a balcony. On the Harmony we were on the lowest deck in a cabin with a high window. I would not choose this type cabin again, as much of your room is actually "underwater." We both thought that the room seemed to be a little on the damp side and attributed it to the cabin location. Next time we would choose a cabin on a higher deck.
