Cozumel

We are first time cruisers, heading out to western caribbean on the Valor in March. With Cozumel as one of the ports of call, would like to pick up some tequilla to bring home while there. Any suggestions please as to the best place to go for this. Thanks!

On my recent cruises I never found tequilia to be inexpensive (or less money that would be my worth in purchasing and bringint it home) in Cozumel.....I have taken eastern caribbean cruises the past year so perhaps the prices changed but don't think that much. I always found kahula to be very inexpensive to the point it cost more than half the price of a bottle would cost us in the states, so I load up on that. As far as other kinds of liquor in Cozumel not much savings at all.

St. Thomas has wonderful prices on all kinds of liquor, Puerto Rico excellent prices on Rum and other liquor and Jamaica on rum. Hope this helps.

The prices in Cozumel are not that cheap. You will see several brands that probably are not available in your area unless you have a particularly well stocked store. It has been my experience that the prices in the duty free shop at the pier are just as good as anywhere in San Miguel. It is also very convenient to shop before returning to the ship.

Make sure you check prices on the ship before you go ashore. On one of our three cruises calling on Cozumel prices were the same or less on the ship, the other two trips they were cheaper on the pier.

I usually buy Kahlua in Cozumel and have had good luck the last two trips. In November 2003 the duty free shop was running a special, 2 liters for $15.

Have a great trip. Cozumel is one of our favorite ports. It is a lovely little island.

In November, I bought a liter of tequilla at the mall at Puerto Maya Pier. It was a good brand, and was $3 cheaper than the ship's cost. I bought liqueurs (Kahlua and Bailey's) on the ship, as they were cheaper than on Cozumel.

Tip: Make a note of the prices on the ship before you go ashore. That way you can get a comparison.;)

I recommend going to Los Cinco Soles for Tequila. This is a very nice shop that sells some really nice assortment of items. We always buy our Kahlua, Tequila, and Natural Gourmet Vanilla here at the best prices in Cozumel.
