eggypann Posted February 19, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 19, 2010 OK - have heard lots about Victor's coconut shrimp - but is your favorite restaurant and/or bar in central Mazatlan?? Thanks!
bobnsofi Posted February 20, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2010 Hey there Peg Mazatlan is different that the other 2 ports we will visit, in that Mazatlan is primarily a large working Mexican city (PV & Cabo are primarily tourist towns) . We will dock in an industrial shipyard very close to the OLD LARGE DOWNTOWN area; which many would consider crowded and dirty (very few cruisers hike on into downtown). Mazatlan does have delightful weather and is inexpensive; thus there is a large population of snowbirds. They tend to spend much of their time and live north of the Golden Zone, which is 5+ miles north of the pier. Some of the historically popular cafe's and bars are Senor Frogs (in the El Cid resort) and Tony's on the beach (north of El Cid - too expensive). We will spend the final hour before sail away in the Cruise Terminal bar (nice; and everyone has to walk right by it on the way to the ships). The only bar downtown that we have been meaning to visit is the rooftop on the freeman hotel. View of downtown from ship, Cathedral on left (shrimp fleet to right) Senor Frogs (in the El Cid) Tony's on the beach The La Puntilla is right next to the Stone Island water taxi and is a very nice cafe popular with upper class locals (stone island cafe's are much more rustic "paper plate" style) La Puntilla In Mazatlan it is all about the shrimp (camaron), and there are shrimp cafe's near the shrimp fleet (not far from the cruise pier)
lovevacadays Posted February 20, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 20, 2010 A little bit further north than central Mazatlan is Tony's on the Beach. Great food, very low-key, nice staff. I think there are two Tony's in Mazatlan but not the same restaurant. The one I like is the one furthest north.
