Breakfast and Lunch

We leave for our 1st cruise in a little over 2 weeks and it just occurred to me I don't know what the options are for breakfast and lunch. Is the MDR open for both? If so what kinds of food do they serve and what times? Do you sit at your assigned dinner table? What does everyone else do for these meals? Buffet, room service?

Yes MDR is open for both meals and it is open seating. Usually just one DR is used. You order from the menu and are served. It's nice to have a sit down breakfast, but uses up more time, so we usually don't do it.

The MDR is usually only open for lunch during Fun Days at Sea.

Hi Angie. Seems most folks head for the buffet and to start sunning. I almost always have b'fast in the MDR. I like being 'served' and I prefer the peace and quiet, as opposed to the Lido Deck buffet area. Just my preference.

The b'fast menu never changes, BUT there is a huge variety, and you can order something different every morning and never cover it all. Eggs Benedict and many egg choices, along w/pancakes, waffles, oh so much more.

Lunch is a different menu each day. The Mongolian Beef Salad is an excellent choice the day it's offered. Lots of choices, and the desserts are wonderful.

You can have espresso or cappuccino with b'fast, lunch, and dinner in the MDR. A nice little comp.

If the waiter is seating you w/others, and you'd prefer a table to yourselves, just tell him, and he'll honor your request. I always ask for a table by the window - alone. No prob.:)

Enjoy your first cruise!

That's different from our experience. In 20 Carnival cruises the dining room has never been open for lunch on a port day. I shouldn't say never since the Carnival Dream tried something new and the dining room was open for brunch a couple of weeks ago when we were in Nassau since we left so early but that is the only exception.

We too enjoy the lunch and breakfast in the MDR on sea days. It give the day a few moments of relaxation between all of the other Fun Ship activities.

Just a tip, On sea days in the afternoon, there is also Tea Time. Try it out at least once. It will be listed in the Capers (or FUN TIMES, whatever) around 4 or 5 in the afternoon. Great atmosphere and lots of little treats to snack on in between meals.

We prefer breakfast in the dining room ;as it is more relaxing than the lido .However ,if you want to get off the ship early to tour then go to the lido .

Again we prefer the dining room for lunch except when the ship is in port . We also find that we can always control our portions better in a sit down vs a buffet .

Dinner ,we opt many times for the speciality restaurants aboard ship for the better quality of foods ,presentation & overall service. That is not saying that the food isn't good in the MDR .It is just our preference

The MDR is a good choice, IMHO, for breakfast. The menu options include eggs benedict, eggs any way you choose with ham, bacon or sausage or hash (or all lol), pancakes, french toast, bagels & lox. All yummy. We never do the MDR at lunch, so can't comment on that.

If you're with a large party the maitre' d will seat you at your own table. Otherwise they fill up tables 2 by 2 and you get to meet new people every day. It's really very nice!

As Cotton said (twice :D), when the MDR is open, they have a full rotating menu, just like dinner. Some of the choices are excellent!

However, on a Spirit class ship, their buffet wins out for me most days, but I still look beforehand. I like the ships that have the menu on the TV. I'm always looking out for the Fish and Chips and the Ravioli's!

I'm one of those people that has to eat as soon as I wake up. I always order room service for the morning, coffee and some toast or a bagel, and eat it on the balcony. I usually try to hit the buffet or the MDR at least once during the cruise, just to say I did.

For lunch, I always go to the Lido. I don't think I've ever had lunch in the MDR. We always eat dinner in the MDR.

I recommend trying breakfast lunch in the MDR, we have always enjoyed it. Sometimes in the AM, just dont feel like going to the Lido deck.

I can guarantee no matter what you choose, there will never be a shortage of food!

Enjoy!

Buffet here for breakfast and lunch. Dinner MDR. However, I think this next cruise will be buffet and skip the MDR all together. Haven't experienced that angle before, but it's sounding better to me. No packing suits and dresses, heels. We're going to travel light this time...more relaxed.

Thanks for the menus! Very helpful! Does anyone know what time breakfast is served? I love the menu, but don't want to use an alarm clock to wake up for breakfast. My husband and I are not early risers but we don't sleep the day away either. Usually wake up naturally around 8. Will this be too late to make it to the MDR for breakfast?

Also, what ships have the lunch menu on the TVs? We are on the pride, will we have the luxury of checking out the menu before choosing where to eat?

Thanks for all the replys, I like knowing my options:)
