brandy11 Posted March 7, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 7, 2010 Where is the best place to snorkel in Nassau, Cococay, or Key West?
Middleager Posted March 7, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 7, 2010 Key west doesn't have much snorkeling near by port. Need to take a boat out, and it's not too special. We'll be going to Nassau next week. There are some good scuba diving to do, will ask about snorkeling while there.

peter_krynicki Posted March 8, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 8, 2010 The problem with Key West is that no-one knows exactly where they are going to snorkel until the morning or afternoon of the trip, and sometimes they will make up their mind on the way out. Where they go depends on the wind and weather and where other captains have found good conditions. But, generally the bigger catamarans, Fury and Sebago, will try to go to Sand Key as a first choice. This is out at the reef and has fingers of coral that you can snorkel between and usually find where the colorful fish are hiding. It's very safe at high tide but can be a challange at low with the swell breaking over the reef. A few of the smaller boats, Danger Charters or the Java Cat will go into the Sanctuary and try first for Cottrell Key. This is where, if you are lucky, you can swim in a school of sting rays, or at least see several. If you are unlucky they will go to the sponge garden...booooorrrriiiing.
