Tortuguero Canal or Ariel Tram

Both these sound so good, if you could only do one of them

which one would it be?

Hi!

We took the combination tour (Costa Rica's Favorites) on the 12/10 Coral Panama Canal cruise. The tram was scenic, but the canal cruise was the highlight! We saw sloths, 4 groups of Howler Monkeys, huge Iguanas, a big croc, quite a few caimans (smaller relative of the croc), bats, lots of water fowl, etc. If you have to pick one, go with the cruise - you will not be disappointed! Costa Rica is beautiful!

There is a lot of good info on this board. Elsewhere there are full reviews of the cruise - including mine. One of the other threads has a photo of the tram.

Have a great cruise!

Mike,

You mention that you did the Costa Rica Favorites and loved it especially the Tortuguero Canals. We will be on the Coral 4/27 repositioning cruise from FLL to SFO. In Costa Rica we dock at Puerto Caldera. The Favorites tour says it is the Pacific Aerial Tram, lunch and shopping in the village of Santa Lucia, and a jungle river cruise on the Guacalillo estuary and the Tarcolas River. Is that different than what you did?

Hi!

Since Punta Caldera is on the Pacific coast, they do not cross the country to cruise the Tortugero Canals. The tour elements, however, are the same - arial tram, lunch, and river/canal cruise. I think I read on one of these boards (this one?) that someone took the Pacific version of our tour and had a blast! It is probably the same operator (Swiss Adventure Tours or something like that). Our guide, Daniel, was top notch and he went out of his way to show us the best Costa Rica had to offer - and that was a lot! What a beautiful country!

Have a great cruise and enjoy Costa Rica!

Thanks for the geography lesson, Mike. I guess since we go all of the way thru the canal, our port is different tho' the tour sounds about the same. We will stick with it as it sounds great. Thanks so much for your help!

You are making the journey I hope to make someday (soon I hope). I bet it will be a wonderful cruise. Please make sure you post a review. I will be curious to see how you enjoyed Costa Rica - and everything else!
