Left items on board....oops...help

My daughter left a purse she bought in Belize as well as several other souvenirs that she bought there in her room on the Dream Saturday when we left the ship...we assume it was in her room as she did not have them in her luggage and she only had one bag. I have emailed Carnival through their website and even left a note on John Heald's blog...since he is on the ship...has anyone had any luck recovering lost items or does anyone have anyway to contact guest services directly on the ship?

Maybe call the 800 number and ask for Guest Services. I've read that there's a "Lost & Found" but can't find any links. ken

Put in a report with lost and found.

 

It is possible you will get the things back, but probably not.

I left a brand new sport coat once in a dining room, went back about an hour late and it had dissapeared. Check with lost and found but it never surfaced. Oh well, such is life.

It's pretty unlikely that you'll recover the items...

I lost a camera card and Todd Wittmer, CD was very kind to check with my steward twice in subsequent sailings to see if it showed up. I also filed with Lost and Found.

 

No luck yet.

 

Your daughter's purse, etc are probably gone forever. So sorry.

One of the gentleman in the group I was with put his camera down and walked away...remembered 10 min later and came back looking for it.....GONE!

 

Chances are those items will never show up....I'm sure your daughter will be disappointed but there's probably nothing you can do about it.

Maybe there has been one, but I've never read a report of a successful return of an item left on the ship. It seems every thread on this issue ends up with nothing being found. :(

My daughter left a sweater in the MDR on the Fascination. We went back, and the MDR said it had been turned in. Next day, they had it waiting for us at Guest Services.

that seems to be the norm; i.e., items are left in the room and never are reunited with their owners--even if Carnival is notified within hours of the passengers leaving the ship

 

what do you think happens? do you think the stewards find the items when cleaning the cabins and adopt a "finder's keeper's" mindset? I am not implying that the stewards are necessarily dishonest, in that I don't think they would steal anything from the cabins while the cruise was going on...but they might just assume that if a passenger left it, then it's the passenger's loss

 

 

thoughts? has a former or current cruise employee ever spilled the truth about this? anything in Cruise Confidential on this subject matter? :confused:

I may be the exception. We unknowingly left money, traveler's checks and a few other items in a drawer in our room. About two weeks after we returned from our cruise, an envelope from Carnival was in our mail box with a letter that our room steward found the items and they were returning them. Obviously, we had a very honest room steward (and yes, we did tip him well while on board).

That's so refreshing to know there are some honest people out there. Never lost or left anything cruising, but when snow skiing in Colorado, I left a bathing suit on a hook in the bathroom and it was never found. Another trip left a fur coat in the indoor pool area the day I got there, went back later, it was gone. Called the front desk and someone had turned it in! Wow, was I happy cause my mother had just given it to me for Christmas. Thank goodness for the honest people.

 

I saw a post about a lost camera and a poster had a great tip about writing down your name, address & phone no. on a piece of paper and take a picture of it, so if you lose it and someone honest finds it, they could possibly return it.

Usually I never carry a purse on the ship...but during the Captain's ball I did and left it behind..Carnival actually contacted me in my stateroom and told me they had it at the pursuer desk.

 

Last year left my camera in the cabin--it has yet to be returned.

 

So all bets are off once you leave the ship

This thread is very ironic, there are so many stories of people leaving things behind (which is the guests fault) then they call/email/write about it to guest services and lost and found, and the item is rarely ever found.

 

But the people that most likly found/have the item are the same room stewards and waiters that everyone loves so much and tip so well because they are such great people.

 

Seams that the Carnival Cruise contract should have a ship employee "finders keepers" clause in it, so everyone knows the staff will keep what ever they find, even though they it was not theirs.

A friend of mine who I cruise with back in Oct on the Freedom, left a makeup bag with a bunch of makeup and other items in the bathroom of their cabin. Didn't realize it until they got home. She called Carnival and filed a report. They said that if it was turned in before the ship left port again, they would send it to her right away. But if could get turned in the next time the ship was in port. About 10 days later, she actually got her items in the mail from Carnival. She was not expecting to get them back and had started replacing the items she left.

 

It was nice to know that their employees are honest and do turn things in for those passengers trying to recover their belongings.

 

Just wanted to share this, since so many others had the opposite expereince. It does and can happen that you get your stuff back. Just depends on who "finds" it!

I use to work at a major hotel casino in Northern Nevada (Lake Tahoe) part of my job was to deal with lost and found items. In my current job I also worked L&F (until I dumped the job on another problem)the amount of items left is huge and a struggle to deal with, at the hotel it would take a full time position to deal with it all. Most company's will not allot that much manpower to lost and found. Unfortunately the way lost and found works at most places is that one department get the responsibility of dealing with it dumped on them with out any extra resources.

 

at the hotel the lost and found was pushed to the back burner, it was easier for me to deal with the day to day operations of my department, than try to locate a item that could or could not be in the room.

 

I am in no way saying this is how carnival or any other cruise line runs there department, but it seems to it is the way they do it.

My adult daughter left all of her hanging clothes in the closed part of the cloest. She called as soon as she got to the airport and they gave her a claim number. Nothing was ever recovered.

My parents unknowingly left their camera bag with video camera and camera inside of it on the Paradise. Carnival called a couple days later informing them and mailed it back to them. This was back in 2002. Good luck on getting your stuff.
