Heraklion, Crete/ Palace of Knossos

What is the easiest way to get from the port in Heraklion to the Palace of Knossos?

We hired Crete Taxi Tours and they will take us from the port to Knossos and return. Our port stop is just from 7AM-Noon; so, we thought that this would be the best way to avoid a ship excursion but still have transportation.

 

Each taxi holds 4 and was very reasonable in price.

We booked a 4-person mercedes taxi tour for 7 hours on Crete through Crete Taxi: http://www.greecetravel.com/crete/taxitours/

The cost quoted was 280Euro.

As with most of the Greecian taxis tours, they are not licensed tour guides so at the Palace, we plan on bargaining for one at the site.

(We're on the Oceania Nautica, 9/10-9/22)

We have not been for several years but there used to be a public bus. If I remember rightly it left from the bus terminus which was not too far from the cruise dock and the buses had 'Knossos' clearly marked. Obviously it was far cheaper than a taxi or tour, so might be worth looking into if you only want transport.

There still is, it's the number 2 line and the fare was about 1 Euro. 280 Euros for a taxi? Three years ago, the taxi fare from the center of Heraklion to Knossos was 8 Euros. Caveat emptor.

I believe that is a 7 hour private taxi tour for 4 people--not a regular taxi ride between two points.
