Bermuda

Has anyone ever cruised to Bermuda? Just started to look with Carnival and the only port that shows a ship leaving is New York. Any information would be appreciated. By the way, just off the Valor. Not very good on the computer but will try to post some info later. Had a great time. Thanks

We did the RCCL repo and it stopped in Bermuda overnight. This was my first time overnighting in a port and it was an interesting experience

We docked at the dockyard which is about an hour driving from Hamilton, but only 35mins by boat.

Rented a scooter and it made getting around so easy. We rode from tip to tip in a couple of hours.

Didn't do too much beach or touristy things. Spent most of our time and a little money at the Dockyard entertainment area beside the port. Lots of shops and places to visit.

Found a nice english pub but found the prices crazy expensive....$53 US for two drinks, entree and dessert.

we have done bermuda on NCL on the crown, the majesty (twice), the dream and the dawn...of all of these ships only the dawn still does bermuda, all others have retired out of NCL for larger ships. bermuda is a beautiful cruise destination, and i am sure if carnival goes there you will love it - best of both worlds, carnival and bermuda...

Been to Bermuda 5 times, three times from Charleston and twice from NYC. Absolutely, hands down my favorite cruise destination.

Didn't know Carnival went there when did this start?

Just checked website too early in the Bermuda season for really nice weather. It will be chilly and the water will be cold BUT if you aren't a beach type it should be nice with appropriate clothing.

I think its only about 600 miles.. off the coast of NC

But in the summer its about 85 +/- and really beautiful

The beaches are magnificent

It's clean and friendly too...

Except for the first 3 things it's just like where I live.

Luv Bermuda either from NYC or Cape Liberty!;)

we went out of boston twice, new york twice and philly once boston is a 30 minute ride, and nyc is wonderful - the view of the statue of liberty is great.

bermuda is pretty warm by may - 80+ and humid - its high season is may-sept if i remember correct and its a different kind of beach - think the hamptons or newport...its a british feeling there...no swimsuits on the streets, and no camo clothes either....but its a pretty place to vacation

Best value for $$ is NCL Spirit out of Boston or NCL Dawn out of New York in April/May or Sept. 3 nights in Bermuda. Food is expensive on shore, so are hotels. Get the multiday bus/ferry pass at the dock.

April/May the water is too cold to swim. Sept is better. Snorkelling galore. We even saw squids. Head to Horseshoe Bay, stay there a while then walk along the shore to Jobson's Cove. Priceless.

We went on the NCL Spirit in Sept 09 and loved it. Somewhat a party crowd and no dress code. Always entertaining in MDR. Put on some pants and a collared shirt and they'll place you at the back of the DR with the massive aft windows.

This Sept 10 its Carnival Spirit to HI.

My husband and I cruised to Bermuda in 2007 on the Carnival Miracle. It was a great cruise but there were some issues. They only go once a year and it is in April. It is not very warm in Bermuda at that time of year. Also they arrive late afternoon on a Sat. and dock quite far from Hamilton, one of the largest cities. It was too late to get there that day and the next day was Sunday. Almost all the shops are closed that day. Not enough time in Bermuda and then they take you to Newport, Rhode Island for a day. We would love to see more of Bermuda but not on Carnival.

The photo is of the small cove to the right of Horseshoe Bay (If you were standing on the beach facing the water - south). Jobson's Cove is very similar but a couple of coves to the left.

Jobson's Cove is more closed in and has some stairs carved into the coral/rock on the RHS.

The ships used to dock in Hamilton and they stopped that.. It destroyed the economy on Front Street.. There is talk of having the ships return to Hamilton.

Docking at the Royal Navy Dockyard is fine for one day but not more than that.. There's not much there..

I'd be very wary about going to Bermuda in mid-April. I'm going in May this year (only date that worked for me) on Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas and I'm worried about the weather at that time.

I guess it would be fine to go in April as long as you aren't expecting to lay out on the beach and do stuff of that nature.

True there is not a lot at King's Wharf on the north west tip of the island. A beach with bar/restaurant, a fort, a shopping mall, shops, scooter rental, tourist kiosk, free trolley/train, bus terminal, ferry termnal, and another pub/restaurant.

Our first day, a Sunday afternoon (we arrived at 11:00 am), we took the bus to Hamilton and visited the oceanography center, walked to town, shops were closed mostly but a bike race was on. We took the ferry back to Kings Wharf.

Morning of day two we took the bus to Horseshoe Bay, went in the small cove to the right, walked the whole bay past a couple of coves to Jobson's cove, spent some time there, then walked to the next beach, up to the road and took the bus back to King's Wharf and the ship.

Afternoon of day two (Monday) we spent at the beach just next to the fort at King's Wharf and then back to the ship for dinner.

Day three, we took the ferry to St George's and then the bus to the Zoo/Aquarium. Bus back to St Georges, walked around a bit and had lunch by the water. Took a taxi to Tobacco Bay (worth the $7 each way) and spent the afternoon there. Fabulous snorkeling. Took the Ferry back to King's Wharf and went shopping prior to a late dinner.

Day four the ship left King's Wharf around 9:00 am to make room for NCL Dawn.

They could have easily stayed until mid afternoon on day four and still make it back to Boston in time for Friday. But while in port the ship's shops and casino are closed so they need to make $$ somehow by artificially upping the sea time.
