Is Bath worth an overnight or go on to London?

Recommended Posts

We are departing in South Hampton and plan on staying in Salisbury for 2 nights and have 3 more nights.

Would it be worth spending a night in Bath before a couple nights in London?

We had originally thought about staying away from London (been there multiple times) and stay in other areas but now we are uncertain.

Any suggestions or feelings about Salisbury and/or Bath?

2 nights in Salisbury is plenty, you can cover Salisbury & Stonehenge (20 mins away) comfortably in a day. If Stonehenge is of major major interest to you, you can arrange a limited-numbers early-morning private viewing for your Stonehenge/Salisbury day, or on your way to Bath next day. But if its of major major interest you'd need a guide, and I don't think the audio-guides are available before general public admission times.

Salisbury to Bath takes about 1 hour, spend a full day there & head for London (2 1/4 hrs) in the evening.

Bath itself is unlikely to be worth more than that one good day, but there are many many other sights such as Glastonbury, Wells, Cheddar all reasonably close to the south, between them they're well worth another day. Or Silbury Hill, Avebury & other ancient sights to the east - which you could alternatively take in on your way to London, using the old main road (A4) rather than the boring super-slab (M4)

Google these places, see if they're the sort of thing that interest you.

Your plans may be dictated to some extent by your transport (car or public) & what you do with your luggage.
