latrn220 Posted January 25, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 25, 2005 Just checking to see if anyone has done this tour with HAL, and have any opinions. Do you get time at each beach or just a quick look? Does everyone have to board the ferry back to St. Thomas at the same time, or can you stay a little longer if you wish? ctguy001 Posted January 27, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2005 The St. John Island Tour drives you by several of the beaches. For most, you just get a peek down the hill or thru the trees. They did stop at Trunk Bay for a few minutes. Just enough time for a rest room break and a Coke. No time for swimming. There was another tour offered that went right to Trunk Bay and you had about 2 hours at the beach. Coming back, we only had a few minutes to look around at Cruz Bay before the ferry arrived and we had to leave (as a group). It's a beautiful island. Don't miss it! woodburykt Posted January 27, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 27, 2005 latrn220 We booked the Trunk Bay beach tour when we were on the Z'dam and it was great. We had a few hours to spend on one of the most beautiful beaches we've ever seen. If you want some nice beach time, I'd check for that shore excursion. Enjoy!! woodburykt Woodbury, CT Nordic Prince/Apr 1989 Zuiderdam/Feb 2003 Oosterdam/Feb 2004 Westerdam/Feb 2005
MandyGirl Posted January 27, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2005 St John is an island that you can easily do "on your own" without a ship excursion. That would allow you the time to explore at your convenience. The St Thomas / St John board here on CruiseCritic (under Ports of Call) has lots of details/threads regarding how to get to St John, ways to spend the day, etc. Also, we have found the following website extremely useful in planning land-vacations to the USVI (St Croix, St John, St Thomas) as well as cruise visits. www.***** You can find ferry schedules, ferry and taxi rates, beach descriptions (many beaches on the north shore of St John in addition to Trunk Bay), etc. Also, if you enjoy country music, Kenny Chesney's new CD released this week ("be as you are") can put you in the island mood... other USVI message boards report he has a home on St John and many of his new songs on this CD were inspired by the island way of life. I normally do not listen to country music and this is actually the first country CD I've ever purchased. :)
