dougp26364 Posted June 2, 2004 #27 Share Posted June 2, 2004 There's another post from someone that's been bumped secondary to their ship being chartered. It really sucks when this happens. Especially if you've already booked airfare. We usually book airfare pretty fare in advance to get the best rates, good seat selection and the flight times we want. I know that the cruise lines are at risk because you can cancel anytime before final payment is due without penalty. But a lot of people make commitments in the way of non-refundable airline tickets and requests for vacation time off that is tough, if not impossible to change. From what I understand, it's just the risk of cruising and all cruise lines do it. Maybe I'm going to have to rethink how I purchase airline tickets and waite until after I've made final payment to the cruisline? It seems that it would be safer that way. Fortunately, at this point, requests for vacation time is very flexable where I work so long as it's not around a holiday, and we avoid taking vacation around holiday's. I hope it all works out for you. Family of 14 Posted June 2, 2004 #28 Share Posted June 2, 2004 You also have to take into consideration that you will lose non-refundable hotel arrangements such as being made on Priceline. Am I to understand that you cannot be bumped after making final payment? I was getting ready to book pre and post cruise hotels for a Vancouver to Hawaii cruise. Final payment isn't due until July. I think I will wait. It seems that these charters are happening about 8 to 12 months out. Host Karen Posted June 2, 2004 #31 Share Posted June 2, 2004 From what I understand, Code Red does not mean the ship has been chartered. It means it is sold out or oversold and is no longer available for booking or waitlisting. Our December Hawaii cruise has been code red at least since January of this year, but some TAs were still holding cabins through mid-March, when they were told to return any unsold cabins to Celebrity. sbgrace Posted June 2, 2004 Author #32 Share Posted June 2, 2004 Here's what our TA found out from Royal Caribbean-- The sailing has not been completely chartered, but there is a partial charter in the works. The sailing was pulled from the web site, and when all the details have been worked out, the sailing should reappear. We have not been bumped. (Yeah!) Anyone who would like to say "We told you so!", please feel free. Diane&4girls Posted June 5, 2004 #33 Share Posted June 5, 2004 Code Red, just means "stop sell", whether it's chartered or sold out. The company that is setting up the partial charter on the AOS did the same thing Aug '03. Here's another company that sets up a ton of partial charters: www.soulofamerica.com West Coast, Thanks!
