platterb Posted March 27, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 27, 2010 Will be cruising on the STAR on 4/10. Just a quick question. Are you only able to access the Web inside their Internet Cafe? Trying to decide whether it's worth bringing our Lap Top. What are the Internet charges? Thanks for your help.
fin Posted March 27, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 27, 2010 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1169635 Due to the slow speed of the ship internet, it is often helpful to use your laptop to pre-write messages and to download responses to read later. garycarla Posted March 27, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 27, 2010 prices are the same with your computer or theirs. Each ship has different areas where wireless works. Some have ports in the cabins. In any event, your connection will be better on your computer, unless you are already burdened with lots of junkware.

Fin makes a great point. I always take my laptop. When you us the ships computers you are charged from the second you put in the password to the second you finish. To get to the desktop or use any of the PC application you have to put your password in. When you use your personal laptop, you can log in to the network, sync your email, and then log off the network. Now your can read the email at no charge and take your time. Now you can reply, save the emails, log on to send then log off again. Also, my wife is a camera nut. Having the laptop allow me to unload the pictures. fin Posted March 28, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 28, 2010 Also, my wife is a camera nut. Having the laptop allow me to unload the pictures. That is also an excellent point. By downloading the day's photos every day and putting them in separate folders by date, you at least have a clue as to where any particular beach ringed with palm trees may have been located when you look at them next year. {In case anybody cares:)}
