Which is the best rainforest to take an excursion to for the southern caribbean route...leaving from San Juan?

Thank you!

We did the Roseau Valley Best Hike in Dominica. The hike through the rainforest to Middleham Falls was an experience. Definitely not for the faint of heart. It was absolutely gorgeous and 100% worth it.

We enjoyed the Rain Forrest in St. Lucia. We took the Arial Tram tour through the ship. The tram was nice and relaxing. They divide you into groups of 8 per tram. At the end of the tour they have a small gift shop where you receive a drink of your choice before heading back to the ship. The tour took about 3 1/2 hours which included the drive to and from port to the Rain Forrest.

Do you know if the rain forest in St. Lucia is better than in San Juan? Also, my mom will be in a wheelchair so would either St. Lucia or San Juan be accessible? Thank you!

I am also interested in this. If there are other places as good or better than PR than that will free up time in PR for something else :). WIth that said, would you mind elaborating on why this is not for the faint of heart?

It is just a very strenuous hike and not for someone who is scared of challenge. The hike is about 1 1/2 hrs to Middleham. There is ALOT of steps, passing over rocks through a stream, and just rough terrain. If you are into hiking then this is definitely for you. It's really an awesome experience.

Did you do this through the cruise line? (which one?) Or did you book it independently?

We did hikes in the rain forests of Puerto Rico and Dominica. I can say the established trails in El Yunque in PR are not very challenging. They aren't paved, so I'm not sure I'd take a wheelchair, but they are mostly adequate for young kids or elderly people. There are also many different trails so you can choose based on your needs.

We did the hike to Sari Sari falls in Dominica, and it was moderately challenging for us (both early 30s and in decent shape). A few in our group were really slow and held all of us up. There are some big steps, mild climbing on the trail, and then climbing through the rocks to get to the falls. Definitely NOT wheelchair accessible.

Overall, El Yunque is more accessible and has some great views. Dominica was a little more challenging, took is to a gorgeous waterfall, but is not for the the extremely immobile.
