bahia puller Posted April 2, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 2, 2010 Does Carnival let you move kids up from Camp Carnival to Club C if they are only 3 months shy of 12 years? My kids would like to do more pre teen stuff and less of kiddie things.
happy cruzin Posted April 2, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 2, 2010 I think they are pretty strict about the age classifications. Other have made similar requests and been told no :o.
poobears Posted April 2, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 2, 2010 As long as it's not already overfull they tend to allow a 3 month window (sometimes more if it's not crowded at all). If they are within 3 months of their bday they can move up or down, they should be fine. Go the first night to the group they want for the meet and greet thing they have and ask nicely :)
SunniLicious Posted April 2, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 2, 2010 They are rather strict with the age limits - otherwise there are so many parents asking to move up or down because their kids are mature or relate better to younger kids or want to be with a sibling or... so no. The age on the date of sailing is the age group the child is assigned.
parrotthead Posted April 2, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 2, 2010 Not usually. And in the 12/14 group, they can (and do) sign themselves out and roam the ship..(usually in herds), (there is much less supervision per sae) Do you really want your 11yr old in with kids that (could be0 almost 15??? Personally, I would not. They would be in with the 9/11s so there would probably be other kids almost 12 also. Activites would not be "kiddie things" they would be age approprate for 9/11yo (and that includes 'almost 12')
arush5268d Posted April 2, 2010 #6 Share Posted April 2, 2010 The only way to know for sure is to ask once you are on the ship. Occasionally people have gotten exceptions - but it seems that the norm is for Carnival to follow age brackets strictly.
gill_boo Posted April 2, 2010 #7 Share Posted April 2, 2010 The 9-11 year olds can sign themselves out as well!
arieschild_of_fire Posted April 2, 2010 #8 Share Posted April 2, 2010 The 9 and 10 yr olds can't sign themselves out, but the older ones can. Last year my son was 12 and a few times I went to check on him and he had left on his own, but my daughter was 8 and had to wait for us to sign her out. Nope, the kids in Camp Carnival can not, a parent, gaurdian must sign them in and out.. the kids in CircleC (12/14) and Club02 (15/17) can. Not the younger ones. jerseytomato Posted April 2, 2010 #10 Share Posted April 2, 2010 From Carnival's FAQ: Children 9 YEARS OLD AND OVER are free to sign themselves in/out of Camp Carnival as they choose at any time and for any reason. Camp Carnival is not responsible for children 9 years old and over once they have signed themselves out of a Camp Carnival Activity. Please give your 9 - 11-year-old child a stateroom key or arrange to meet him or her at a specific time and place. Children are not permitted to sign themselves out after 10:00 pm. After 10:00 pm 9 - 11-year-olds must be picked up by their parent from After Hours (fees apply after 10:00 pm). Parents that do not want their 9 - 11-year-olds to sign themselves in & out of our activities will be REQUIRED to sign their child in & out when attending Camp Carnival. If the parent/legal guardian chooses to change this policy and allow the child to sign in/out by themselves they must contact the Youth Director

gill_boo Posted April 2, 2010 #12 Share Posted April 2, 2010 I was positive that was the way it is, seeing as my 10 year old step son signed himself out several times on the Glory last October.

I don't think there is confusion - just unawareness by those who were doing it one way that there is another option. :)

They will let kids within 3 months of their 15th birthday move from Circle C to Club 02. We didnt ask we were told and given the option for my ds. He was 14 when we cruised Dec. over New Years and he turned 15 in early March. He moved up and was a happy kid! I do not have experience with the younger group, just know it is not across board for all age groups that they have to stay in the supposed age group.. bankerbabe Posted April 2, 2010 #15 Share Posted April 2, 2010 My daughter was 2 1/2 months shy of her 9th birthday on our last cruise, and they gave us clearance to move her into the 9-11 year old group. They didn't bat an eye. But by the time we asked it was mid-cruise and she was intimidated by the idea of joining a new group, so she just stayed with us most of the time.
