'Round The Horn!

The new preliminary QM2 brochure highlighting this Cunarder's 2006 voyage from New York to California, Hawaii, and back just came. Like Pavlov's Dog, I immediately started to salivate and got the itch to book. Is there anyone else so disposed and booking one of these voyages?

Hi there!

Just booked for the 12-night portion going from Rio de Janiero to Santiago, around Cape Horn. We're so excited about this. I hope the next 10 months go by very fast. So who else besides eatsallinsects, ricker and us are on this cruise?? Any idea on what the excursions might be?

sailsalot, my daughter is doing "big time" research on all the ports, etc.

I don't know where she got the gene for organization because it sure didn't come from me (smile)!

The Internet is full of info. Look at one of the brochures listing the ports, etc. and then try "googling" them.

I wish I was on the whole "round the Horn" part of this cruise. But we are booked on the 3 night RT out of Los Angeles. It's not much, but it's our intro to Cunard! I have not seen these cruises for sale anywhere. I only got in on this one because a close friend is a TA.

emilygrace, We'll be with you on the little 3 dayer. We would love to cruise longer, but it is just not a option right now. If you can believe it, I booked this cruise last November, as soon as I saw it published. It will be an intro to the ship, as we are considering a crossing in the future.

I'm so happy to read about someone else going on this little cruise, I started a Roll Call and there was one other person who responded. I'll check it out, and bring it to the front page on Roll Call again. I haven't bothered to figure out how many days to go!

Never mind, I just noticed you have done that already!

Hello

We're booked on the 11-day LA roundtrip on Feb 25 but have never seen any info online or received any brochures.

I see by some of the comments here that the brochures are out. How can I get my hands on one? The Cunard site still shows nothing pertaining to these sailings (around the horn as well as Hawaii). Thanks

I telephoned Cunard here ( in the U.S. ) and, AT LAST,

someone in the brochure department said that they

could now send out a copy. ( this was just this morning ).

Try it and let us know what the response was.

Good luck,

Bob.

Is anyone on this cruise interested in using Port Compass for private excursions? I know it's a bit early, and there's no indication of what the shipboard excursions will be. But I've heard alot of good things about this agency. I'm especially interested in using them for transfers from Rio airport to the port, and Valparaiso port to Santiago airport, which apparently they do, combined w/ a tour of the area. This would be great, since there seems to be a huge amount of time between arrival/departure and time needed to be at the port. They do have minimums for the tours, though, which is why I'm bringing this up to see if there's any general interest from anyone else to do this. I know Cunard airport transfers are $96, but wouldn't it be fun to take a tour on the way to/from the airport as well??

My daughter just received today a brochure from Cunard showing a stop in Ft. Lauderdale between NYC and St. Kitts. If we had known this previously, probably would have opted for boarding the ship there instead of NYC but now we are committed to boarding in NYC. Oh, well, we get 2 more days on the ship!

If you're booked 'round the Horn on the QM2, you might want to see if your fare has been lowered. The prices dropped about 10% since I booked in January. I'm now in a balcony room for what I was paying for an oceanview room.

PRICE DROP? We are using a TA this time (have always dealt directly with Cunard before). She told us last November that we would be in a B2 cabin instead of a hull balcony, which we had originally reserved. Shall have to check prices on Cunard's website and see what kind of prices they are offering!

Yes, the price dropped, and in last Thursday's mail a new Cunard promotion came offering QM2 repeat passengers an onboard credit of up to $50.oo per day per person if in a balcony room. I have been assured by a Cunard reservationist that can be applied to those whom have already booked.

THANK YOU for mentioning that! I checked with our TA and she confirmed we would be getting the credit for the 38 days onboard! She said it can be used for anything except the Casino!

I recieved my Summer 2005 "Cunarder" yesterday and the trips circumnavigating South America are featured in one of the articles. I was thrilled to see that a shore excursion to Iguazu Falls from Montevideo is to be offered.

This cruise is becoming more attractive to me than it was when I booked. As the original advertisements for the QUEEN MARY 2 asked, "Can you wait?" my answer in a resounding "NO!"

We have been reading this board for sometime, primarily to find out information about this voyage which we booked last Jan. Today we finally joined so we could reply. We are booked on the full NY to LA trip and are excited about it and delighted to find others as excited. I am sure we will have questions later, but for now we will sign off.

Well, that day when we must open our wallets and pull out a large amount of cash is drawing nigh. I'm just wondering if anyone has received an unsolicited upgrade yet? (I.M.H.O. this does help lessen the discomfort of passing such sums of money 90 days in advance.) Also what rooms are we going to be in and for which leg(s) of this history making journey?
