mkazmer Posted April 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2010 We had a wonderful time on the Star - left on 4/3 - day before Easter - and home today! It was a great cruise! I will post a full review later this week.
luvs2travl Posted April 11, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 11, 2010 We sail on the "Star" on April 24th, so we will be anxiously awaiting your review. We have sailed on several other Princess ships, but this will be our first time on the "Star". DH would like to know if there is a Churchill's Cigar Room on board, or something similar, as there is on the Sapphire Princess. Also - did you find the library was very good or not so much? We have heard good & bad about it. We are fairly avid readers & would like to know how many books we'll have to lug on board! Did you enjoy the "Vines" Wine Bar venue? Was MUTS very loud? We have an aft mini-suite and are hoping it won't be too disturbing out on our balcony. Thanks so much! Hope your cruise was wonderful! :)

I'm not the OP, but we were on the Star a couple of years ago, and enjoyed it very much. And we will be on it again in July. There is a cigar bar (Shooter's bar) on deck 6, by the Princess Theatre. Don't know much about the library, but most of the ones on the larger ships are fairly small - you may want to bring your own books, or your Kindle (or similar). We enjoyed the Ruby Vines venue very much. Free tappas and sushi - as much as you want. We always bought a glass (or a flight) of wine to go with them. We were in an aft Ruby cabin and never did we hear any sound from the MUTS theatre (maybe the sound of the wake drowned it out? LOL).
luvs2travl Posted April 11, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 11, 2010 Thanks so very much, MGnut! We so appreciate you taking the time to answer our questions. DH is a considerate cigar smoker and was hoping that there would be a Cigar Bar on board where he can relax with new friends, a good stogie and a glass of brandy. We both love a glass of fine wine and cannot wait to experience "Vines". The "Star" does look lovely after her refit in 2008 - at least all of the pictures we've seen show her to be a beautiful ship. Also good to know that MUTS won't run us off our balcony! We'll bring some extra paperbacks and relax on those wonderful sea days. Once again, thanks to you for your reply. That's why I love Cruise Critic! :)

We have sailed on several other Princess ships, but this will be our first time on the "Star". DH would like to know if there is a Churchill's Cigar Room on board, or something similar, as there is on the Sapphire Princess. Shooter's Sports Bar is the smoking 'lounge' Also - did you find the library was very good or not so much? We have heard good & bad about it. We are fairly avid readers & would like to know how many books we'll have to lug on board! It is a small library but we found enough books to keep us occupied for 30 days. In December they also had a table out for book swapping Did you enjoy the "Vines" Wine Bar venue? Vines is fabulous. Try the different variety of Flights of Wines if you want a reasonable priced sampler of some good wine. We probably spent a third evenings in Vines, sometimes missing dinner and feasting instead on Tapas and Sushi. Was MUTS very loud? We have an aft mini-suite and are hoping it won't be too disturbing out on our balcony. You will not hear it at all Thanks so much! Hope your cruise was wonderful! :) We were on the Star in Nov/Dec and I have answered your questions from how we found it then.

Did you enjoy the "Vines" Wine Bar venue? We enjoyed the sushi - didn't sample any of the wines Was MUTS very loud? We have an aft mini-suite and are hoping it won't be too disturbing out on our balcony. MUTS sound didn't seem that loud Thanks so much! emeraldlake Posted April 11, 2010 #7 Share Posted April 11, 2010 Heard rumors that Princess is trying out a deal with drinks for $2.99 after 8PM in bars and lounges? Did you find this on the Star Princess?
mkazmer Posted April 12, 2010 Author #8 Share Posted April 12, 2010 Not a chance - the drinks were over priced all over the ship at all times imho - only deals that I saw were in Skywalkers when it was reserved for Elite, Suite and Platinum guests from 5-7pm and featured appetizers and $5.00 or so drinks.
