luckyduck Posted April 16, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2010 I am a new-ish snorkeler (done it a coupla times). I bought my own mask a few years back, but I don't like the fins; I wear watershoes instead. My question is: what is the point of the fins? I've never been comfortable with them. People who wear them seem to use a vertical kicking move; I'm not a strong swimmer, and I use this horizontal frog-like kick that my mom taught me as a kid. I just wonder if I'm missing out, or committing a grave snorkel faux pas.
bruce-r Posted April 16, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2010 The point of fins is increased propulsion. If you are comfortable enough without fins, as long as you aren't snorkeling in a current and you're not in a hurry, I'd say you are fine without them.
