Sites to see between SJ and Mayaguez

We are planning on spending a couple pre-cruise days in Puerto Rico in June and are going to visit Mayaguez, since it's my husband's birthplace. Can anyone recommend some sites worth seeing on the way that are located between San Juan and Mayaguez?
