we booked this 5.5 hour excursion and just noticed it starts at 10:30 am, so 5.5 hours later would take us to 4:00 which is the scheduled departure time for the ship......does this mean they may hopefully start the excursion earlier as we are at grand cayman at 8:00 am??? just a little concerned about cutting it so close...it is a rci excursion so the ship is not supposed to leave without us ...but one never really wants to test that theory....any comments?????

We did this on a Carnival Excursion...they have different times set up and we had other cruise ship passengers with our group. We took a bus to the rental parking, in front of the beach club, from there it took about 2.5 hours to go to the point, through the mangorves, to Hell and to a Tortuga rum store. The rest of the time was at the beach, with buses leaving at various times. There were other groups behind us. Just cut your beach time short. 20 minutes at Hell was 25 minutes too long:rolleyes:. And if you get to the rum store when tour buses arrive, you'll be there forever battling starving cruisers trying to snag multiple free pieces of rum cake. So there are or could be ways to shorten your time. But ask your ships excursion desk to clarify the arrangements as soon as you get on board or before you get to GC. Don't wait til you are on the tender pier.
