Jewel and CAS questions...

Does the Jewel have an adults only pool? Don't get me wrong, I love kids, but we are going on vacation to have a break from our 5!:)

I have found bits and pieces about CAS searching. We are not high rollers, but will spend some time in the casino each day and are planning on signing up for the players card when we board.

You earn 1 point for every how many dollars played?

At what point do you get the free drink card, and, I assume, it is only to be used at the casino bar.

I have read that comps for meals are sometimes offered. Any rhyme or reason to that, or is it random?

Thanks for the expert advise!

There is a set amount of points for each dollar played through a slot or vp machine (I don't know the formula, but I'm sure a slot player will be along soon). For table games it's more subjective...you need to make sure you get "rated" whenever you sit down at a table.

Once you earn $15.00 worth of points (if I recall correctly) you get the drink card...it's only good in the casino. Even without the card, if you play table games at more than minimum stakes, the pit boss will often pick up your drinks.

At the end of your cruise, if you've earned at least $25.00 of points, your points (including discretionary comps, which are sometimes given over and above your point balance) are applied against your room charges...but you need to visit a casino host for this, it's not automatic.

Once your in their system you can book future cruises directly through CAS, and depending on your play, may receive a standard 17% discount, or comped or partially comped rooms. You get the drink card automatically if you book through CAS or Harrahs.

For the casino: Slots: $5.00 played equals 1 point (a few machines may vary). Video Poker: $10.00 = 1 point (VP offers better odds). Table games are at the mercy of the pit boss but are significantly less than slot play points (because your odds are better). Once you hit 1500 points, ask the casino desk for the drink card, which can be used ONLY while playing - at the bar you would have to be playing the games embedded in the bar, otherwise it's brought to your machine/table by a server (please tip them). Getting drink card should not deduct from your accumulated points. 2500 points is the minimum to cash in for onboard credit (2500 points = $25. OBC). Points above (about) 5000 gets you a bonus. more OPC per point, it depends on how you rank against others in the casino. There is another point where you can trade in for free slot play (maybe 1500 points = $15 slot play? not sure). Comp dinners are at discretion of casino manager - I think it depends upon how you are ranked against other players (as a comped CAS guest, we have been given comped dinner at the beginning of the cruise when we were pretty highly ranked). There is no formula, the casino manager just approaches you and tells you.

Points are earned on run-through (your cash plus winnings run back through, etc), NOT on cash you put in. The countdown is clear on the machine, very transparent - just watch the countdown to see your points being earned. Make sure you are earning points (re: many times during a "bonus" round on a machine, your card will stop working and you have to reinsert it). You can check your points balance on any machine.

For your next cruise, casino play can earn you a discount or a comped cabin.. I would guess you need a very minimum of 2500 points to qualify for a discount. Our last cruise we had about 12,000 points and we are comped a mini-suite on our next sailing.

Hope this helps! Have fun!

Please excuse my ignorance in this whole casino thing.

My son (21) wants to get a players card the first night of our cruise. He does not do slots, but likes the Texas Tournaments, table games etc.. He will have about $500.00 - $600.00 to spend in the casino (yes..his own money ;) ) over the course of the cruise, and will most likely play any of his winnings (maybe...I guess it depends on how much, if any, he wins).

This is probably a very small amount compared to what most people play, but do you think that would qualify him for anything ...ie) drinks, OBC, etc.

Thanks!!

He won't get anything for the tournaments (unless he wins ;)) but his table play will be rated according to his bets and hours per day. That said, if he does well at the tables and has a lot of money to "reinvest", he can likely earn something. I can't say specifically, but I would guess (and it's really just a slightly educated guess) he needs at least 2-3 hours daily with $25 minimum bets to score anything much.. If he is a regular at the table with those bets (or even lesser bets once they get to know him), he will likely be bought rounds of drinks by the staff. Have him sign up for the card, play the first night, then check his points balance the next morning by putting the card into any slot machine. That way he can estimate how his points were earned and what he *might* earn for the cruise overall (after the pit boss rates his play, it will translate overnight into points that are redeemed at the same rate as slot points above). Just remember that anything he earns is a bonus for playing what he would play anyway and remember the #1 rule: Never chase comps - you will always come out behind!!! (unless you have one heck of a lucky angel on your shoulder).

Thank you Fishbait17...I don't think he'll be chasing comps...he doesn't even know they exist :D...

I just don't want him to miss something that he might get by not knowing about it. I'll let him know of your information. So the first night of table play...he asks the dealer to rate him??? What if he changes tables...does he ask each one??? Or does he ask a manager???

Thanks for the info!!

When he sits at a table, he should just hand the card to the dealer, who will pass it on to the Pit Boss to track his play. Same with any table change. Keep track of points on any slot machine, and once he hits 1500 points for the drink card, he needs to take his card to the casino desk and they will give him the drink card.. Last night of the cruise, if he has hit 2500 points or more, he needs to bring his card to casino desk for his "cashback" OBC (available during certain hours - watch the Daily for times).

Just off the Jewel in March - no problem getting drinks at the bar with the drink card, you did not have to be playing poker games. We got $210 OBC for a little over 5,000 points, and a comped balcony on the Epic in October. NCL comps are the best!

I just got back off the Jewel (the repositioning cruise) Miami to NY. It was great. I had a little over 13,000 points (way to much gambling..lol). They gave me $390 off my shipboard account. I know I could call the Casino # but just curious on what you think I could get for a future cruise. Are you being comp'd for a 7 day cruise? Is there someone specific you would suggest I call.

I am just curious as I really have no plans for another cruise for awhile yet so it is hard to just call them as I know they will want a cruise date.

Thanks for your time.

What they can and will offer will vary depending on many factors. Not just your play history, but which ship, itinerary and sail date you are interested in. I called to price out 2 cruises, for the NY/Bahama cruise they offered me a mini-suite and for the Med cruise they could only offer me an inside cabin.

The only way to find out what they might offer you is to call them and even that is subject to change if you aren't booking right away, but it will at least give you a rough idea of what they may be able to offer you. Good Luck!

And you may get a different offer from each rep. So don't jump at the 1st one unless you thing it's a great deal. Was offered a discount from one, called a different day and got a mini comped! So keep trying
