Sonshiner Posted June 1, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 1, 2004 Looking forward to reading your review! This cruise is on our radar scope for next May. I'll especially be interested in hearing how the weather/seas were for you since it was creeping up on hurricane season. <MARQUEE> Counting down the days until our Alaskan cruise on the Vision - 8/20/04! </MARQUEE> "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine..." ddean52 Posted June 1, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted June 1, 2004 the ship looked great, however, one day they put varnish on a rail on deck 11 then the next day they varnished the railing on our balcony, one day some new rug was put down...etc...nice to see but kinda wished they had done all of this in dry dock....but the ship looks great!! the weather was great once we set sail..just enough clouds but mostly sunny. prior to sailing we spent 3 days in san juan where it rained very hard. we still got out a saw the old city and the rain forest which was great! MarkMichaels Posted June 5, 2004 #13 Share Posted June 5, 2004 I would also like to know what changes were made to AOS on this last dry dock. We were on her in March and are going again in October and are curious as to what they could have changed. She was in pretty top shape before dry dock. We had heard rumors that they might be converting the pools over to fresh water, any chance that happened? Thanks, can't wait to read your trip report. KBess80 Posted June 8, 2004 #20 Share Posted June 8, 2004 ddean, I was wondering where you were for the M & M!!! There were only about 20 people there and most were with my group but I asked everyone else "Are you Dean & Alice?" so you were missed. I was so worried about the weather when we arrived in San Juan but we couldn't have asked for better the rest of the week, right? Karen

jrm9999 Posted June 8, 2004 #23 Share Posted June 8, 2004 Not trying to but in for ddean52, but I took the 5/30 AOS sailing so can shed some light on a few questions: Sonshiner - Hurricane season should not be an issue unless a storm is active, and even then it would have to be getting close. The seas in general depend a lot on the wind and direction you are traveling. On the 5/30 sailing you could feel the boat move but it was not bad. The captain told me they never even used the stabilizers. I would not worry about it. We cruise in the peak hurricane season all the time in Sept and never have a problem. Even if there is a storm, the ship moves faster and can out run them or move out of the way. dalwhitt - ship is in excellent condition. They are continuing to do work. I saw carpets getting replaced and lots of touch up paiting going on, but they did this at times when it did not bother anyone. We also saw all the railings on deck 4 get re-varnished and the mini golf carpet get replaced. suedcpa - There are new menus that had a date of 2/2004 printed on them. Many of the items are the same but there were a few new ones. As of our sailing, there was no charge for food in JR, only drinks. They did add Ben and Jerrys, but it was not open yet. It looked ready but had no ice cream. They still have the free yogurt machine right next to this and it should stay after Ben and Jerrys opens. bug18 - Late dinner is at 9:00 the first night and 8:30 the rest of the week. pmfan - No charge for JR as of yet. I did not save menus. We showed up at the dock around 11:30. They were still debarking the last cruise until about 1:00. It was close to 1:30 before they started letting us on. That said, the line to get on at 1:30 was very very long, so getting there early at least gets you a decent spot in line. MarkMichaels - The main changes I know of was the addition of Ben and Jerrys at the drydock. Other than that lots of carpets have and still are being replaced, lots of touch up painting going on and refinishing of wood railings. As for the pools - still salt water. They were however doing a lot of work on the ships plumbing so maybe that is in the works??? not sure as I had not heard of the dresh water pool rumor before. - Jeff
