Low Carb on Cruise...dont worry!

Recommended Posts

Hey remember me? I am so happy to say I only gained 5 lbs on the cruise and that is not so bad considering what some people gain in a week on these things. I had lost 32 lbs with Atkins and was so worried about what a week away would do to all my hard work. I ate very well and truly did not watch very much. I did limit the desserts and the frozen drinks (they are killers)....and drank wine, light beer, and continued to drink lots of water. We took the stairs all the time and walked ALOT!!! Our excursions were active and swimming burns alot of calories too!! We went to the gym only once. I was lucky and did not feel sick form eating some carbs....and did not get the sugar high and lows some people get. Well...got to get back on track now on induction for a bit to lose the few pounds I gained...but hell it was worth it to enjoy myself for a week!

Hubby and I were talking about it and came to the conclusion that if you can't low carb on a cruise you can't do it anywhere! It was so nice to have so many choices that were all legal - all it takes is a little bit of willpower to stay away from the rolls and desserts too much!

monkeboat: Hey, I remember you. Glad to hear that you did o.k. on the cruise. Good for you. 5lbs is nothing. You'll lose that by the end of the week.

I gained 5 also this week on NCL, but lost 3 already. I am sure it is all water weight as I was bloated by the second day. I only cheated one day.

Since I have been low carb for over a year rolls do not tempt me the same way they used to, I will only indulge in a whole grain roll once in awhile. I may take a small taste of one that looks good, but make sure it is covered in lots of butter so it gets absorbed slower. I figure we have the other 51 weeks of the year to honor the diet. One week is a short respite to let go enjoy and relax. Guess if we did not indulge, we would feel like we did not vacation or get our moneys worth. My mind and body needs the rest, no decisions, no worries about the everyday control factor, just pure rest and fun. Just by being back home, you automatically go back to whatever diet you believe is best for yourself.

Most of us who low carb think of it more as a lifestyle change, not a diet. Many of us will continue to eat this way for life with slightly higher carb allowances than in the losing stages. I do not ever feel deprpived in fact some of the very things I lived on before now either repulse me or I have no interest in anymore. Tastes do change.
