Have you tried the chef's table?

Recommended Posts

We are going to set sail May 29 on board the Oasis of the Seas, and are wondering about the Chef's table dinner.

Has anyone tried it? Is the price tag worth it?

We are looking forward to it and don't want to be disappointed; if the feedback is so so, we might look for another way to spend the $150...thanks!

My wife and I did it on the last night of our sailing. I would recommend not doing it on the last night, as there is so much to do, but definitely recommend doing it.

I'm a picky eater and there was one item on the menu I didn't like (pea soup, but it was better than I expected). I got this for my wifes birthday as she likes the cooking shows and chef shows, so it was for her more than me, but I enjoyed myself and the food was delicious. 7 course meal, all the wine you can drink, and other reviews said you can get bar drinks if you don't drink wine. We had a friendly group and the night went by fast. The somellier and the chef were both entertaining. It didn't feel "stuffy" or "snobbish" at all, which is another thing i was worried about. I wore a polo shirt and slacks and was dressed like other men there.

If you can spend the money, DO it. If it's going to be that or something else, you might want to do something else, as you might not enjoy yourself as much as we did and find you wasted your money. Everyone has different tastes. Heck, we had about 10 glasses of wine, maybe more and at 7-10 dollars a glass from the bar, we drank up at least 75.00. Look at it as free food if you want..Free, delicious, very upscale food...UMMMMMMMMMM

It was advertised with a signed cookbook and an apron, we didn't get the apron. I emailed RCL and we'll see what they say.

ENJOY..

We also did the Chef's table last tuesday and loved it. It's a very special dinner and you are treated like special guests. There are place cards beautifully scripted with each person's name. 14 people per dinner and one dinner per day. We had a great group of people from all over the US and Canada. We were asked to meet in the Library first and then the dining room manager meets you and escorts you to the table which is on the second level of the Concierge lounge.

Food was great. I actually loved the pea soup which was one of the trio of soups served. Couldn't eat is all or we wouldn't have made it to the end. The Somellier is Jacque and he's the brother of Reyno, one of the Concierge. Can't recall the chef's name but he was very entertaining as well. The wine was VERY good!! We also received the cookbook but no apron. I forgot all about that!

I ate at the Chef's Table as well last week on my cruise. It is very definately worth the price. The food was fantastic, the service top notch and the atmosphere wonderfull. My husband loves the cookbook but we also did not recieve the apron. Enjoy.

Does anyone know if there are substitutions for the menu such as for a seafood allergy? I know a lot of upscale food has seafood in it and I don't want to spend that money and only be able to try a few of the dishes...

Great information! thanks you all for sharing... I think we are going for it then... the last question posted actually interests me as well because my husband is allergic to shellfish.... but if you get such great wine he might not even realize he didn't eat :D

Thanks again! this really made it easier.

Did not find Chef's table offered unfer specialty restaurants on line. How do you get a reservation?

We got an email reminding us that we were one month away from the sailing date and that they had this exclusive 14 people table every night. I also looked online but you can't book it there. It can only be booked by the reservations call center AND they don't confirm you right there; rather, you have to wait for an email from the " Restaurant Operations " I was told it would take 3 days.... we are going on 5 and still waiting. I'm calling again today to check on status...

busybee have you heard anything yet?

This sounds like a fun dining experience. We are going in August, when would you suggest I call to make the "reservation"? Is it to far from the sail date now??

We did Chef's Table on a recent Princess cruise, and if RCCL compares to that at all: I say DO IT.

I'm a bit of a foodie and the whole experience was out of this world. There was no apron, but we got a gorgeous, signed, cookbook and two 8x10 pics (one of the whole group with maitre d' and chef, and one of just my friend & I with md and chef). Well worth the $75 in my opinion.

As to allergies, when we met with the maitre d' ahead of time (day before, if I remember right), he asked about food allergies, so they should take that into consideration.

I have not heard.... but I am planning to call again. i would try to call for an august reservation for this table, since it is supposed to be first come first served.

a whole week later and still no news from Royal Caribbean: the supposed reservation confirmation email never came and my email query via the website has not been replied to either....

not impressed with the customer service pre-boarding...

last week i had to give three days choices to be reserved on and they would tell me in three days... today she pulled it up and is supposedly sending me the email shortly..... don't get it, very different story :s

this is assuming that the email comes through... apparently i can get the first choice i wanted - thursday

it sounds like closer to the day it's easier to get the reservation done directly in the system.
