Rare Gail & Marty sailing away Posted May 7, 2010 #26 Share Posted May 7, 2010 My soon-to-be husband and I will be traveling on Carnival Glory on May 30. We have paid for the cruise, gratuities and shore excursion in full already. However, we are depending on our wedding for cash to use onboard, which makes me nervous. We like to drink ( in our 20's) and play poker and want to visit the Steakhouse onboard. Can anyone make a reccommendation about how much $ to take? What would be considered a "safe" amount for a couple like us? 25$ for poker pr day 60$ for drinks pr day 70$ steakhouse
MDSue Posted May 7, 2010 #27 Share Posted May 7, 2010 Oh by the way, I did forget to mention that we're registered on a honemoon website. We have "registered" for things like poker night, celebration drinks, etc. on that site. We've been together for 8 years and have told people ( when they ask) that what we really wanted most was a nice honeymoon in lieu of dishes, lamps, sheets etc. since we already have those things. I realized from reading some of your posts that I probably came off as sounding rude with the money. We did just buy a house and are paying for much of the wedidng ourselves. That is why we're short on cash for the trip. Sorry, should have geiven a little background. Thanks again for all the well wishes and advice. This will be my first vacation without the family so I guess I am just a little nervous! Personally, If I give someone money for a wedding gift- I would be just as happy if they blew it on a wonderful honeymoon that included drinks and gambling, or if they bought a set of dishes. Enjoy your honeymoon and don't worry about how others think about your plans. Hope you have a great trip!
BalconyGal Posted May 7, 2010 #28 Share Posted May 7, 2010 Congrats! :D Keep an eye on your bill as it can creep up unexpectedly. Last cruise we spent almost $2300. No thats not a typo. But we budgeted for that and knew it would be high. Shore ex, spa treatments, sanctuary (adults only area on princess), drinks, specialty dining etc, it all adds up fast! Wish you all the best! Taxguy77 Posted May 8, 2010 #29 Share Posted May 8, 2010 Wife and I have been on 10+/- cruises and always under $100/day of the 2 of us. DW loves slots and plays some every day. Starts with cash, so that sum is not on the ship account. (Usually a few 100 later.) We're both beer drinkers. Since half our cruises have been transatlantics, that's a lot of expensive beer!:p In port, we always drink local beer, most of it has been good, some very good. We also often eat lunch ashore. Tips and meals in airports, some ground transportation meals and beer in foreign ports runs about $200 to $400 depending on itinerary.
ailuro Posted May 9, 2010 #30 Share Posted May 9, 2010 I'd not gamble any money given as a wedding gift in the casino...it just strikes me as a bad omen in waiting for some reason..:o
Dadmech Posted May 10, 2010 #31 Share Posted May 10, 2010 Nice comeback! Sorry, that's my kind of humor. Dad left me with that kind of wit. :) I can't resist this one. Do you know how the Rubber Duck saves money on the cruise..........He puts it on his bill. Sorry Rubber Duck. What's a thousand dollars? Mere chicken feed. A poultry matter. irene112x Posted May 10, 2010 #32 Share Posted May 10, 2010 Two years ago me, my husband, and two sons went on a western 7 night cruise and loaded $900 on our sail/sign card. We were able to budget the entire week on the ship with this amount of money. We also like to gamble so we spend two nights in the casino. We prob spent a little over $400 on drinks (also includes the kids drinks) and gifts. We spent around $300 on the islands. Our next cruise will only be me and my husband. We plan to only load $500 for the week and $400 spending cash for the islands.
