Which is better...

We are going to Cozumel, Roatan, Belize, and Costa Maya. We are looking for snorkeling vs diving in each location with the exception of Belize where we plan to do a Cave Tubing adventure.

I think we have determined to dive in 1 location and snorkel in the other 2 locations, so now the question is, which one to dive vs snorkel? We would probably be using the ships excursions for these since they are just easier to work with. But would be willing to consider other vendors if they do not require payment upfront like Carnival does. Appreciate the help.

Roatan for snorkeling or diving and Cozumel for diving. We dove in Costa Maya in December but was not all that impressed. To be fair, a storm delayed our dive for quite a while so the conditions were not the best. Really was not that impressed by the reef.

Costa Maya is a great place to dive. The day I was there, it must have been 80 feet of visibility in clear, blue water. The bottom was a beautiful white sand and we saw quite a bit. But, I understand how conditions can change. No one could dive at Cozumel when we got in due to high winds. Fortunately, I was going to Tulum that day instead, but I can imagine how disappointed the divers were. Can't wait to dive Cozumel next year!

Roatan and Cozumel are both great dives, but it really depends on your experience and comfort level- I have found that Cozumel has a much stronger current where Roatan's currents are minimal most of the time. Roatan has some very good shallow reefs that are easy for snorklers to access so it may be a better snorkle on Roatan if that is something for you to consider (I've never snorkled on Cozumel- I don't know how they compare) Good luck- I'm sure either place will be an amazing dive!

Dive in Roatan with Anthony's Key. It is fantastic. Cozumel is great for diving but also good for snorkling. Personally I would say why snorkle when you can dive, but that's just me. Seriously - Dive Roatan !!
