Anyone walked up to Canopy Tour lately?

I know I read a post a while back about some folks who just walked up to the canopy tour early, before the ship tours arrived and were able to pay $35 to do the tour. I really like the idea of this rather than having to pay $33 just to go to the beach and another $35 on top of that. We will be on the Carnival Valor, the NCL ship does not arrive until noon the day we are there. We have 2 boys who really want to do this, then we just want to head to the beach for the rest of the day. I know the beaches are free, so why pay for them! Thanks!
