jaxx48 Posted May 14, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2010 My in-laws have cruised P&O for as long as i know, my f-in-law now has diabetes (elderly onset) and a history of heart problems (had since his 40's) and this year the insurance for a 5 week cruise has cost him MORE tan the holiday - anyone got any recommendations re good insurance companies who are actually willing to insure folks when they actually NEED good cover? SAGA wouldn't entertain him and WHSmiths who have insured him for last 2 years suddenly dont want to do so -he hasnt suddenly got worse just another year older! (he's 76) would love to know what others do in this situation as they so do not want to have to give up their fav way to holiday!!

Because they sell primarily to US/Canada residents their plans are similar to other US-based insurers so their pre-existing medical condition coverage is also pretty comparable. This means that as long as you meet a simple set of requirements they will cover you for pre-existing medical conditions with no other pre-qualification. Basically, all they require is that you purchase the policy within 14 days of making the first payment on the trip and that you are medically able to travel as of the date you buy the policy. If you're over 70 you may have to step up to the Elite plan to get the pre-ex coverage but I'm not 100% sure -- better check with them. You can find the plans and more information at http://www.squaremouth.com If you have specific questions you can contact iTravelInsured directly at: T: 866.347.6673 or 317.655.9796 F: 317.655.4505 E-mail: service@itravelinsured.com If you can find a UK-based insurer that will cover you at a reasonable cost I'd go with them just because you're dealing with a local company, but if none of them want your business this is a valid second choice
travelbab Posted May 27, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 27, 2010 Have you tried All Clear? (http://www.allcleartravel.co.uk) They were recommended on a health website. I cant recommend them because this is our first time using them but they have covered us where no one else would and I notice they cover terminally ill and if you are on waiting lists. They also offer cruise cover though I don't know how extensive the coverage is in comparison to others. We have cover which was the most important thing to us! galipemi Posted June 6, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 6, 2010 Have you tried contacting Tesco or Direct Line? I know they both offer a travel product and will consider pre-existing medical conditions if they are declared. Basically you declare and they decide whether they will accept or not. If your pre existing condition is accepted, it's covered. If it's not, well at least you'll know what is and isn't covered.
wishful thinking Posted June 15, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 15, 2010 Hi. Well I've just experienced the most frustrating time trying to get insurance for my hubby who was diagnosed with cancer last year. Long story short, went with our usual company - no joy. Tried several cancer 'specialists' - still no joy. In between we were quoted silly prices likes £7000!!!!! Was just about to give up when I had one last try. World First came though for us and only cost £458. Woo Hoo. Give them a try and see how you get on. Good luck and I hope all works out for you :)
