You should have nothing to worry about for some time as neither Northwest Airlines or Delta Air Lines are in bankruptcy. But, down the line, note the following reported by USA Today: Delta Air Lines (DAL) last month dodged a bankruptcy filing, but it couldn't dodge records for the largest losses in airline history.

The USA's No. 3 carrier said Thursday that it lost an unprecedented $2.2 billion, or $16.58 a share, in the fourth quarter [of 2004]. For all of 2004, it lost $5.2 billion [emphasis added].The question thus becomes, How much longer before they join United and UA Airways?
