familycruisin Posted February 2, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2005 We have found the patters for kids activities for the younger and older kids, but have not seen any for the 10-12 year old range. Does anyone have information or copies of the patters for the Caribbean Princess? :o
suziehmkr Posted February 2, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 2, 2005 Oh - I hope someone does post them! My 11 year old is sailing with us for a long one in December and has no idea what to expect. Please Please Please someone post them.... Thanks!
where2now Posted February 2, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 2, 2005 I have all the kid information for the Senior Pirateers (ages 8-12) We were just on the Grand Princess. I do not have them posted anywhere but I will answer any questions you might have about the program.
familycruisin Posted February 2, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted February 2, 2005 I am mostly interested in finding out the planned activities. The older kids have a casino night and talent show. What are the big fun events for this age group? I have read some complaints that the activities were too babyish for this group. Were your kids happy with them? where2now Posted February 3, 2005 #5 Share Posted February 3, 2005 My ten year old daughter loved the program. I will list some of the activities for you. Every day they did something to do with the California Science Center. For example: make a mini coral reef, bubble magic, dissect a squid, build a roller coaster, create a mini solar system, make a paddle boat and see if it floats. Other activities are, tshirt making, ice cream time, bingo, karaoke, hula hoop contest, kids disco in the skywalker lounge, scavenger hunts around the boat, Pj party, how to make lanyards. On the 7 day cruise 2 night they ate with the kids program at 7pm. Almost every night they also showed a movie around 8-8:30. I think the activities were great. I also believe the time of year you go probably makes a big difference. We went in January and pulled our daughter out of school for 4 days. There were only about 175 kids on board. I know sometimes on holidays the numbers are very high (500 plus). My daughter only had about 20 kids in her age group. Let me know if I can answer any more questions. familycruisin Posted February 3, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted February 3, 2005 Thanks! Those activities sound pretty comparable to the other programs he has been in. He loves science, so I hope that is available! I read on another post that the science program is not always available. I wonder if I can call Princess to find out if it is on our sailing. We are sailing at the end of March, so I know that there will be a large group of kids.
ilinda Posted April 9, 2006 #7 Share Posted April 9, 2006 familycruiser Did you daughter enjoy the kids program? My niece is 10 and I am taking her on her first cruise and she is so worried that she won't have fun in the kids club. Did you happen to save the kids programs? If so I would love to get a copy if you could send them to me...I would truly appreciate it. thanks Linda
Cruisin' Chick Posted April 9, 2006 #8 Share Posted April 9, 2006 I listed many of the activities available on the holiday sailing of the Island Princess a few months ago in my review: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=285469&highlight=aloha I did keep most of the Patters, and the Pirateers packet but there are many pages so I summarized the program in my post #5 on the above thread. If you're going while most kids are in school, you may want to note that the activies are pretty much scaled down. If you're going while kids are out of school (summer, winter and spring breaks) and on the ship, there will be more going on.
LoveSanibel Posted April 9, 2006 #9 Share Posted April 9, 2006 We were just on the Sapphire(Mexico) trip 2 weeks ago. My son is 10 and loved the kids club. They did the squid dissection, roller coaster building competition, boys vs girls trivia competition, casino night, disco night, karaoke, some free time for Playstation and games, card tournament, made t-shirts, had some crafts (he did want to do those), 2 movie nights, 2 dinners with the kids at the buffet(on the formal nights), game show games, Playstation tournaments on the big screen TV, and an activity with sharks/sharks teeth. I am sure there was more, but that is what I can remember. He loved it and was there every possible minute. There was 247 kids age 3-12 on our sailing( at least that is what they told us) and about the same number of 13-17. We never felt over run with kids at all. S.S.Oceanlover Posted April 9, 2006 #12 Share Posted April 9, 2006 The kids program on the CB for that age group is 8-12. Did you even click on the link? It says ages 10-13 and if you read the first line on the first page of the kids Patters it says "Welcome aboard the beautiful Caribbean Princess". While the age group on your particular sailing may have been 8-12, and in fact it may be the norm, I don't know, but the age groups vary by sailing depending on how many kids of each age are aboard on each sailing.:) Bill
cjh Posted April 9, 2006 #13 Share Posted April 9, 2006 Yes, I've been to your site and I enjoy it. However, I was just on the CB and the director for the kids program said they now combine all 8-12 year olds all the time. They do take the preteens out one day to do an activity by themselves but they no longer have separate programs.

chriscruise Posted April 9, 2006 #15 Share Posted April 9, 2006 We were on the Caribbean Princess a week ago. The age group was 10-13. It was as big as life on the door and my 10 y/o participated. We also had friends in every other age group and they were never mixed together. There were around 500 kids onboard, so they were very strict about the ages. Our friends tried to get their kids in the same group and there was no way. I'm sure it depends on how many children they have and how their ages work out if they mix them. That was the reason the director said they would always be together because they didn't have the room to separate them anymore. She said they had 150 in the first room on the non teen side the week before and said it was crowded because of the lack of room access.
chriscruise Posted April 10, 2006 #17 Share Posted April 10, 2006 The younger rooms were all on the same side. They were on the side opposite of of the teen area. I'm sorry, when I was on that floor I never noticed port or starboard. If you were looking at the elevators the younger kids were on the left and teens were on the right. That's the best I can describe.

That is the room that was 8-12 and then the room through the doors and down the hall was the room for the 3-7 year olds.
