Seabourn Legend, Monte Carlo to Barcelona

We are going on our first Seabourn Cruise, Monte Carlo to Barcelona, on June 19th. Has anyone done the helicopter tour in Pallma de maorca or the Paella Cooking Class in Valencia? Wondering if they are really worth money. They are the two most expensive tours for the whole trip.

Sounds to me like a once in a life time deal....when you say expensive..look at it this way...you are there...may not go to the same area again..so..enjoy!

We will be on the same cruise--also our first with Seabourn. We have not booked either of those tours, but they sound like fun! Our 22 year old daughter has her heart set on a wine tasting tour in Palma, so we'll be doing that one instead...

Someone just told us about Mallorca Pearls. Man made but only experts can tell. Might be something your daughter may want too.

See you there.

That would be a pretty safe bet!

My husband and I will be on this same itinerary in July. Any tips you can provide after the cruise for tours and things to do would be greatly appreciated!!

Hubby and I will be on this itinerary in Sept. Likewise, we would greatly appreciate any tips or comments from those who of you who will be travelling before. :)

My fiancee and I are planning to do this cruise next June for our honeymoon and are interested in hearing from some of the people who've gone this year. I've never been on a cruise before but have heard that the clientele on some of them can average 60 or 70 years old. We're obviously not looking for a college-type spring break experience, but at 30 years young, we're hoping there would be a few people near our age to befriend and share a drink or two with after 10:00 P.M. Has anyone who's gone on the Seabourn Legend cruises in the Mediterranean noticed whether there are some people in their 20s, 30s, or 40s, or is everyone much older.

Would greatly appreciate some info, as well as hearing about the experience in general.

MKL,

Rest assured you will find people of various age groups on board. We went on this cruise a few years ago as the second of two weeks having started in Rome. There were a number of 30 something couples on board. And rest assured, that even the passengers over 60 do not turn in at 10PM. The shows usually start at 10pm and are well attended. Likewise some pass on the show and adjourn after dinner to the Club to dance and have an nightcap or try their luck in the casino.

Hi Linda,

It's good to hear from you and to hear of your further Seabourn adventures. Oh yes, we have caught the bug big-time, too! :)

I'm sure we will run into each other again on Seabourn.

While I generally understand Seabourn's dress code, I'm a bit concerned about the evening attire in the Med during the middle of the summer. The "Resort Casual" is not an issue, but I understand that several evenings will be:

"Elegantly Casual: Slacks with a jacket over a sweater or shirt for men. Dress, skirt or pants with a sweater or blouse for women. Jeans are not considered appropriate in The Restaurant."

I understand slacks and a dress shirt, but having been in Italy last july, I know that the temperature can be in the 90s still at 6:00 P.M. when the dress policy is in effect for the entire ship. Is there a "its way too hot to wear a jacket" exception to this policy? I generally dress quite conservatively and don't have any problems with dress codes, but its hard to imagine wanting to wear a jacket while outdoors in the middle of summer. Can someone offer their experiences or wisdom?

It was very hot still when we were on our Med cruise last year. However, we dressed up for dinner each evening and my husband put on a jacket because inside the ship it was cool with the air conditioning on. Out on deck the jacket came off - no problem! You won't be frowned upon if you have no jacket on, but in the Club and the Restaurant you will probably find that you need one anyway. Lots of people get changed after dinner to go to the show or to sit out on deck, but even if you don't (we didn't) just take your jacket off. We were outside at midnight a few times just watching the sea and the moon and it was still hot. Hope it's like that for you.

We tended not to get ready for dinner until after 6pm so we were still in shorts and T shirts up til maybe 7pm. It's not a problem. Sometimes sailaway is not until 6pm so everyone is out on deck drinking champagne or their favourite cocktail and a lot have not yet got changed.

You will love Seabourn and be totally spoiled. We are hooked and have booked another trip next September - a long time to wait but it will be worth it. Enjoy your trip!

It's one thing to bring a jacket, but if they don't have it cool enough to keep it on, don't expect to hear alarm bells if you politely remove it to the back of your chair. After all, they have the choice of a relaxed polite and cool patron or a hot and sweaty heathen who becomes rude and irritable when put in a pressure cooker. Which do you think they'd prefer?

In my case I was forced by the heat to remove my required jacket half-way through the meal but was not ejected from the dining hall or even meant to feel substandard by any means. I do think that they are trying to make your visit enjoyable without degrading the aura of austerity and decorum. Halter tops and short shorts would cause a stir.

Just be sensible to your surroundings and have a good time. Some people wear tuxedos to bed. You don't need to be anal but do be considerate.
